Salary: Up to £65,000. per annum Closing date: 10th February 2026 What is the purpose of this job? An opportunity has arisen for a Business Analyst at Rail Delivery Group. The ITSO on Mobile smart ticketing programme introduces a new form of digital ticketing. This project combines the flexibility of mobile eTickets with the security and speed of NFC technology. You'll be at the forefront of this transformation, working to deliver requirements and analysis for solutions that bring true walk-up convenience to passengers across the UK. It's an exciting time to join this high-profile programme. You will be working with our internal architecture team and alongside key external stakeholders such as the Department for Transport, mobile platform partners, and our suppliers to deliver essential business analysis deliverables. Using your BA skills and ITSO knowledge you will undertake both high level strategic and detailed analysis to define multiple sets of requirements, identify and define data flows necessary to deliver the end-to-end solution and map out both internal and cross-organisation business processes. The role is ideal for an experienced BA who has some ITSO knowledge and wide-ranging full lifecycle business analysis skills, who is looking to be involved at the vital early stages of delivering the next new form of digital ticketing. As a business analyst at RDG, you will form part of the newly established RDG Business Analysis Practice, setting BA standards and processes, sharing best practice and working collaboratively to ensure consistent, high-quality business analysis deliverables. What can I expect to do in this job? This isn’t an exhaustive list, but things you can expect to be involved with include: Understanding and clearly defining the scope of change initiatives Working with customer, technical and other teams as required to understand detailed wants and needs; identifying and articulating solution options, rules, benefits and risks Elaborating high level requirements into detailed functional and non-functional requirements from internal and external stakeholders Managing the prioritisation of requirements Reviewing technical designs to ensure the solution meets the requirements and rail industry standards Evaluating suppliers’ capability to meet the requirements, either from existing solutions or from new developments Defining acceptance criteria, ensuring that the team builds and achieves those criteria Supporting the delivery of training to internal/external users and creation of training material Contributing to and ensuring that all business analysis deliverables align with the BA Practice community and standards Measuring and reporting on benefits delivery Providing input into future development roadmaps. Who will my key contacts be? Delivery Manager/Programme Manager Business Analysis Practice Lead and other BAs within RDG Internal supporting functions (e.g. architecture, finance, procurement, legal) Senior stakeholders and TOC organisations RDG Service Management Team Third party stakeholders and suppliers What experience, skills and knowledge do I need? Must have a basic understanding of ITSO (e.g. shells, products, fulfilment) Minimum of 5 years working as a business analyst or in a closely related area in a professional environment Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Experience and knowledge of analysis activities across the full project development lifecycle Experience of documenting requirements using use cases, user stories and other techniques Understanding and definition of current and target operating models System and business process modelling and re-engineering Collaboration and facilitation skills to work effectively with a broad range of both internal and external stakeholders Experience of running workshops and posing the right questions to gather requirements and challenge design details and assumptions Attention to detail, enabling issues to be identified, coupled with thoroughness and a determination to resolve them Ability to produce excellent quality written documentation to support your work, report on findings and present to stakeholders when required Proactive and delivery focussed Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills Ability to balance customer, project, and development needs for a particular project delivery, escalating any conflict at appropriate times Exposure to and understanding of agile and traditional project management frameworks Data analysis skills to investigate issues and identify impacts (Excel/SQL) is beneficial Experience of modelling tools such as Visio and Enterprise Architect is desirable Professional business analysis certifications (IIBA, BCS etc) are welcomed Experience of procurement processes and deliverables (e.g. RFI, RFP) is helpful Rail industry experience and knowledge of rail industry standards is beneficial About Rail Delivery Group Rail plays an ever more crucial role in Britain.
