Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Reporting directly to the Technical Claims Manager, you’ll settle high-value and complex third-party claims as economically as possible while maximising the speed of settlement and safeguarding the company’s reputation. You’ll become an integral part of a centre of technical excellence for Motor and Liability claims, where you’ll provide advice and guidance to Claims and other business areas within Direct Line Group.

  • Manage your own portfolio of high-value personal lines catastrophic injury/complex claims, adhering to your own personal delegated handling authority
  • Conduct thorough investigations, with the assistance of experts when necessary, to validate all large loss claims
  • Negotiate fair and reasonable settlements for third-party claims using the appropriate communication channels
  • Contribute to the development of technical claims handling skills in the department and wider claims locations by coaching, conducting file reviews, providing training, and disseminating updates on technical and legal developments
  • Stay informed about legal and procedural developments impacting high-value claims handling, evaluate any relevant changes or developments, provide input into the assessment of impact or determination of approach that should be taken by DLG, communicating outcomes to stakeholders
  • Provide technical advice and support to regional third-party claims teams and other business areas to support the achievement of business objectives
  • Contribute to the development of the large loss claims handling strategy within DLG, identifying opportunities for improvements and strategies to maintain DLG’s position as market leaders in this field
  • Maintain awareness of and adhere to the rules and requirements of legal, regulatory, and risk management frameworks on an ongoing basis
  • When necessary, lead or provide input into DLG’s responses and discussions related to developments and changes in procedural or damages law/law reform
  • Represent DLG on industry bodies or review groups, providing valuable technical insights and reporting to Claims Management as needed
