ABOUT THE ROLE

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Technical Data Lead to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 3-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a fully remote role.
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Data Lead to join our cross-functional data delivery team. This is a high-impact, client-facing position responsible for designing and implementing a centralised DataOps operating model. The model will support a broad spectrum of data engineering activities, system integrations, and advanced reporting through dashboarding and visual analytics.
In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert (SME) in technical data delivery—leading solution discovery, data modelling, and the development of pipelines and visual reporting solutions. You’ll collaborate closely with data architects, engineers, business analysts, and client stakeholders to shape how data is integrated, transformed, and consumed across the organisation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, implement, and manage a repeatable and scalable DataOps model that integrates data engineering, discovery, modelling, and reporting functions across projects
  • Analyse structured and semi-structured data (e.g., JSON, XML, SQL exports, SAP CDS views) to inform data integration strategies, mapping, and solution wireframes
  • Work closely with internal business units and external stakeholders to gather requirements, present solution designs, and ensure technical delivery aligns with business needs
  • Translate business requirements into logical and physical data models that support scalable, high-performance analytics and reporting solutions
  • Build and automate ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as Azure Data Factory, as well as scripting with Python and PowerShell
  • Use Power BI to create dashboards and data visualisations, focusing on usability, interactivity, and business relevance
  • Partner with Data Architects, Business Analysts, and Project Managers to deliver end-to-end data solutions that align with the vision of the central data environment
