Description:

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region and with a global presence. Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn’t exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.
LJMU has long held an important presence in the educational and cultural landscape of one of the most famous and liveliest cities in the world. With its position within the top 30 largest universities in the country, LJMU is also one of the biggest employers in Merseyside.
LJMU is an ambitious and forward-thinking institution that challenges convention and believes passionately in the concept of ‘One University’ – a community working together to achieve common student-centred objectives within a clear strategy. Our vision is to be recognised as a modern, pioneering civic university delivering solutions to the challenges of the 21st century, and to deliver our mission of creating and sustaining a vibrant community for learning and knowledge where staff and students work together in an active and supportive partnership.
LJMU is an exciting and challenging place to work and the University embraces technology to the positive advantage of staff, students, and partners.
We are looking for an experienced Technical Delivery Manager who will be a member of the Business Applications team within IT Services. You will be responsible for planning and managing projects to upgrade the packaged software products which support the university’s key business and student systems. This will include continuous improvement releases, full system upgrades and patch-type updates. You will be working with software vendors, 3rd party suppliers, infrastructure colleagues and key business and user communities to plan each upgrade to minimise the impact to the core business functions of the university and to take advantage of periods of reduced activity for our business colleagues and support teams.
You will also be responsible for planning and supporting events which occur on an annual basis throughout the academic year. This could include events which have a high reliance on IT services (e.g., confirmation and clearing processes), or where we provide support to business-led events such as results notification or graduation. You will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues within the Office of the Registrar to identify these key events; agree who the sponsors or responsible owners are for them; agree the milestones; and identify critical success factors for each, so that success can be quantified.
Underpinning the role, you will be actively engaged in user groups (such as technical steering groups for the different platforms within the Business Applications remit) and will work with the principal developers of each area to ensure that workload prioritisation is consistently managed and is in-line with the expectations and prioritisation agreed at the steering group.
To do all of this you should be methodical and have excellent communication skills to help you collaborate effectively with the various teams you will engage with across the university.
This is an exciting role for a Technical Delivery Manager who enjoys working on a variety of projects that vary in size, complexity, challenge, and technology, within which someone can make a real, positive difference. We are seeking someone with good technical knowledge of a range of service delivery models and business applications and services. A comprehensive and cohesive IT service will be delivered in line with university and IT Services strategies and directives, as communicated by senior management. A customer focussed ethos is vital.
In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction and development support as well as family-friendly policies.
This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.
If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.
LJMU values diversity and provides a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can fulfil their potential.
We would encourage applications from all individuals who meet the advert criteria, but would particularly encourage applications from women; Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups, LGBTQ+ groups; and disabled people. The University is proud of its commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and endeavours to cultivate a staff base that is representative of society. Please let us know if you have an impairment and require reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process.
Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated
