About Our Client: Our client is a leading civil engineering contractor specialising in the delivery of government infrastructure and high-rise building projects. The organisation is known for technically sound project execution, strong financial discipline, and efficient delivery of complex construction projects. As part of continued growth, our client is seeking an exceptional Technical Director with a proven track record of leading the successful delivery of large-scale civil engineering and building projects valued at KES 5 billion and above. The successful candidate will bring executive-level leadership experience in managing technically complex, commercially demanding projects involving government clients, multidisciplinary teams, and multiple stakeholders. Position Overview: The Technical Director will provide overall technical and operational leadership across the company's construction portfolio, overseeing multiple projects, guiding Project Managers, and ensuring projects are delivered within required timelines, budgets, and engineering standards. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and will sit on the company's Executive Committee (EXCO) as part of senior management responsible for strategic decisions. The role is accountable for ensuring that projects are delivered safely, profitably, on schedule, and to the highest engineering standards, while maintaining strong client relationships and contractual compliance. Key Responsibilities Strategic Project Leadership Provide executive oversight of major infrastructure and building projects Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with engineering specifications, safety standards, and contractual obligations Ensure proper administration of projects under JBC construction contracts and other standard forms of contract Direct project execution from pre-construction through commissioning and handover Supervise and guide Project Managers and multidisciplinary technical teams Provide oversight on procurement cycles and ensure compliance with Kenyan Public Procurement regulations and systems Monitor and manage project cashflows, cost controls, and commercial performance Commercial Leadership Take full accountability for project profitability, margins, and commercial performance Review and approve project budgets, forecasts, variation claims, and recovery strategies Drive contract negotiations and commercial dispute resolution Client & Stakeholder Management Serve as the executive interface with Government Ministries, County Governments, engineers, consultants, and development partners Lead executive-level client engagement throughout project delivery Risk Management Lead enterprise project risk reviews Develop mitigation strategies for technical, financial, contractual, and operational risks Technical Excellence Champion innovation, digital construction, BIM, value engineering, and modern construction methodologies Lead value engineering initiatives to optimise cost efficiency without compromising project quality Oversee subcontractor management, supplier engagement, and procurement planning Lead technical governance across the entire project portfolio Lead technical planning, scheduling, and execution strategies across projects Leadership Participate in strategic decision-making as a member of the Executive Committee (EXCO) Provide technical leadership across multiple construction projects, including high-rise buildings and government infrastructure works Build and mentor high-performing engineering leadership teams Develop succession plans for senior engineering staff Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or Business Administration (MBA) will be an added advantage Minimum 15 years of professional experience in civil engineering or construction Proven experience managing multiple concurrent projects and leading technical teams Strong knowledge of JBC contracts and their administration Good working knowledge of Kenyan Government Procurement systems and procedures Demonstrated expertise in project scheduling, value engineering, procurement processes, and project financial management Registered Professional Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) Current member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) Registration with other relevant professional bodies How to Apply Interested and qualified candidates are invited to submit their CV by 15th August 2026.
