Description
The Technical Expert - Steering Gear Assemblies is responsible for the mechanical requirements, design rules, and validation of Electric Power Steering Gear assemblies, Mechanical Steering Gears, Tie Rods, and Linkages. A key focus for the position is ensuring robust TDR (Technical Design Review) execution to ensure high quality and Zero FSA with new program launches, as well as up-front program sourcing. Lead Technical Design Reviews and Signoff of the mechanical requirements and DVP&R for EPAS Gear assemblies (including Belt Drive, Single Pinion, and Mechanical Steering Gears), Tie Rods, and Linkages. Focus on execution of BIC quality - Zero FSA, Detailed audit and review of systems to ensure robust milestone sign-offs before Chief sign-offs. Lead Core Requirement, Design Rule, Test Method, Engineering Specification, SCCAFs, and all Failure Mode Avoidance deliverable creation and revisions, collaborating with other Technical Experts, Subject Matter Experts, and engineers. Ensure high-quality sign-off on all revisions. Provide Technical support for critical issue resolution for in-flight programs and production issues, including launch, Recall, Quality/Field Issues Collaborate on Technical Sourcing workstreams with the Core Supervisors to ensure Supplier quotes comply with requirements and optimal pricing is achieved to meet program targets. Use SySML and Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) to ensure comprehensive requirement derivation, and linkage down to Steering Gear system requirements and Test Methods/ES, including DFMEA and drawing linkage. Be an active participant and lead mechanical tech clubs where appropriate. Be an available technical resource to D&R engineers to review mechanical design changes, non-compliant test results & problem resolution. Lead and drive to closure all mechanical steering prevent recurrence through addressing systemic root cause with process or requirement updates. Help enforce a rigid process for getting core document changes and any deviations approved. Ensure documentation of design interfaces across commodity boundaries (upper steering to lower steering, lower steering to suspension, lower steering to frame) is of high quality and robust by maintaining interface drawings and guide files Ensure appropriate validation of system requirements and usage in the vehicle Support Technical Design Reviews for new steering technologies, focusing on the mechanical design. Collaborate with other Steering Technical Experts and Supervisors to deliver world-class Steering Systems. Coach, Mentor, and Train engineers. Established and active employee resource groups Bachelor's degree in engineering, Mechanical or strongly related 8+ years of steering experience with a thorough understanding of steering technology, system design, component design, and Joint Design 5+ years of experience with strong supplier management of complex systems. 5+ years' experience applying Systems Engineering and Failure Mode Avoidance to develop safety-critical systems. 5+ years of experience using engineering disciplines: DFMEA, DVP&R, 8D, Process Control, PFMEA, and System Engineering Fundamentals 5+ years of experience with advanced problem-solving skills, including 8D, 6 Sigma, 5-Why training, Contrast/Converge, y= f(x), Experimental Design MS Engineering, Mechanical or strongly related Ability to manage/resolve simultaneous challenging, complex technical issues. Strong oral/written communication skills to lead group projects, issue resolution, and management reviews. Experience with electro-mechanical embedded systems Knowledgeable in GPDS and GTDS Interface experience with Corporate Safety and Legal teams on safety critical systems. Strong leadership skills, passion for quality, passion for customer - inherent self-starter with strong drive for results.
