Under the direction of the Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance, the Technical Field Specialist is responsible for gaining experience and knowledge in the areas of research and development, cement job design and simulation, safety, training, lab, operations, electronics and dispatch. This position provides support and assists as directed in pre-planning, job execution and post job analysis in the delivery of cementing services. This role is responsible for conducting experiments, performing tests and providing results, analysis and reporting. This role is considered to be safety-sensitive. The Technical Field Specialist role encompasses three levels of seniority based on skillset and experience with Magnum’s various service lines, which include Oilfield Cementing, Soil Stabilization, Isolation Technologies, Fluid Services, and Bulk Plants.

Job Responsibilities

  • Gain work experience in Magnum’s core service line of Oilfield Cementing, progressively working through the various positions in the service line, becoming competent in each, from entry-level up to eventual supervisory roles.
  • Gain work experience in the field operations of Magnum’s other various service lines, including but not limited to Soil Stabilization, Fluid Services, and Isolation Technologies.
  • Gain a working knowledge of the technical departments that support field operations involved in primary and remedial cementing services.
  • Study and interpret cementing job execution; report issues and assist in planning safe processes for cementing.
  • Research and drive process improvement to improve the accuracy of programs as it relates to operational execution and customer requirements.
  • Review and establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)/Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs) to ensure operations is working in a safe manner.
  • Manage project record keeping (e.g. daily reports) and assist in technical writing as directed.
  • Assist with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Leading and Lagging indicator trending, and Safety Statistics.
  • Perform assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles.
  • Maintain and update technical and scheduling documentation for engineering and operational projects.
  • Participate in safety meetings for operations.
  • Develop, update, and drive continuous improvement in operational training program (competency training) and dispatch / logistics processes (coordination of operations).
  • Provide engineering expertise to resolve technical problems, including identifying potential improvements to job design, using performance tracking of equipment and materials.
  • Analyze data and provide reports to engineering and sales divisions; recalculate formulas as required.
  • Support Operations in conducting field level job and bulk plant audits, as required.
  • Foster and maintain strong client relationships; supply technical support to clients, resolve issues and provide technical advice.
  • Communicate with the Operations department regarding client expectations, ensuring that a high level of service on delivery, quality, and satisfaction is maintained and that contracted obligations can be met.
  • Research new technology within the oilfield industry and report on findings as well as provide recommendation on research undertaken.
  • Represent Magnum in professional associations such as SPE, CSUR, Well Integrity, etc.
  • Assist Operations in a Supervisor 2 or MCIT capacity on high profile or complex primary or remedial cement jobs.
  • Provide technical knowledge and support on any jobs pertaining to well control issues and blowouts.
  • Conduct post-job reviews of jobs to ensure accuracy of ticketing and compliance with procedures.
  • Provide technical Post-Job Occurrence Reports to Senior Management and support Alliance Representatives and Sales in gathering information and presenting out reports to clients, as required.
  • Follow up with on site representatives to ensure job satisfaction and any potential improvements.
  • Identify client concerns and areas of improvement and communicate them to the Technical Sales Representative or Alliance Representative with regards to program accuracy and procedures to ensure operational excellence.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of operation and functionality of field equipment and components as it relates to the cementing of oil and gas wells.
  • Support laboratory operations, QAQC testing, and complete internal and external lab reports, as required. Audit field sampling processes and conduct audits to ensure compliance. Monitor documentation required for customers upon receipt of services
  • Support training of new Supervisors, Laboratory Technicians, and other technical staff on Magnum’s service lines and their specific requirements, including facilitating internal training courses and supporting mentorship.
  • Participate in training and development activities.
  • Other related duties as required.

Qualifications - Required

  • Hold an existing or working towards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Petroleum engineering, equivalent technical diploma, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Progressively responsible experience in a relevant field specialist role, as applicable to the level of role being assigned to.
  • Good organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities or projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Office).
  • Able to work overtime, travel, accommodate a flexible schedule, and participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Able to be work a field operations shift as required to support business needs; on call 24 hours on a 15 days on a 6 days off rotational schedule, remaining fit for duty at all times (subject to change due to market conditions).
  • Physically capable of moving/lifting heavy objects up to 23 kg., bending, standing, gripping, sitting/driving, walking, and climbing repeatedly for extended periods (specific to field support work).
  • Able to work outdoors for extended periods of time and in all types of weather conditions (specific to field support work).
  • Able to work in congested or confined areas, and with exposure to loud noises and vibration (specific to field support work).
  • Legally eligible to work in the country the role is based out of.
