Description

Chas Clarkson is the National market leader in seasonal event design and illumination and requires an experienced, organised and enthusiastic Technical Assistant to join their team.
Reporting directly to the Lighting Director, this is a unique and exciting opportunity. Working with high-end clients nationally, this role offers a great environment, variety and good future prospects.
The position is based in the Sydney head office and is full time with an immediate start.

Your overall responsibility will be to assist with the maintenance of the Lighting and Technical department to ensure all projects are delivered beyond the expectations of our client’s, meet safety guidelines, and achieve budget and timeline parameters.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out basic equipment maintenance, including:
  • Test and Tag
  • Flash Testing
  • Cleaning and prepping lights, controllers, and related hardware.
  • Replacing connectors, globes, or faulty components.
  • Maintenance reports
  • Conducting repairs or sourcing replacements for the wider Chas team.
  • Support Research & Development:
  • Assist with prototype builds.
  • Showroom issues/changes
  • Document and photograph testing processes.
  • Maintain workshop organisation:
  • Ensure tools are returned to correct locations.
  • Keep workbenches tidy and free from dust/dirt.
  • Organise storage areas, ensuring items are labelled and ready for use.
  • Perform inventory checks:
  • Monitor and restock consumables.
  • Update inventory records as directed.
  • Assist with equipment preparation for installations and events.
  • Support Technical/Production Admin tasks as required:
  • Labelling equipment.
  • Preparing packing lists.
  • Collecting orders from suppliers

IN SEASON ROLE

  • Assisting with both daytime duties and may occasionally be required for night installs.
  • This will typically be larger installs that require more tech members or smaller simple tasks that don’t require experienced techs.

TO SUCCEED IN THE ROLE, THE FOLLOWING PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES ARE ESSENTIAL:

  • A foundational understanding of lighting and electrical work within the events or installation industry, with a strong willingness to learn more about both temporary and permanent setups in public spaces
  • Well-organised with a proactive approach to planning and time management
  • Some experience working within a team environment, with an eagerness to support and learn from colleagues with diverse skills
  • Capable of assisting across multiple projects and prioritising tasks effectively
  • Shows initiative and a positive attitude when contributing to team goals and project outcomes
  • Basic IT literacy with a willingness to grow technical skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively with internal teams and external contractors
  • Flexible and available to work extended hours during the peak season (October – January)

TO SUCCEED IN THE ROLE, THE FOLLOWING PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES ARE DESIRABLE AND HIGHLY REGARDED:

  • High Risk Work license (Work platform) – Over 11m
  • Elevated Work Platform License – Under 11m
  • Familiar in the programming of DMX or similar
  • Understanding and enthusiastic about lighting and network systems
  • Electrical trade or Lighting production Qualification
  • Experience working with 12v and 24v systems
  • Appliance Test & Tag Certification
  • Current Driver’s license
  • Capable of soldering or using work tools
