TECHNICAL LEAD

Department: Technology / Engineering
Reports To: CTO
Location: Remote
BAM is a dynamic, multi-disciplinary firm with leading-edge skills in information technology, software development and applied research. Serving government and commercial markets, BAM is committed to its customers and to delivering strong leadership, sound solutions, and innovative thinking.
The Technical Lead plays a critical role in scaling our engineering teams by leading the technical hiring process from within the technology organization. This is a hands-on technical role requiring strong coding skills, engineering judgment, and a passion for building high-performing teams. The ideal candidate will both lead hiring operations and actively contribute to software development projects during periods of low hiring volume, joining Scrum teams to help deliver key features or reduce technical debt.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Technical Hiring Process
  • Review resumes and portfolios to identify top-tier engineering candidates
  • Collaborate with the Technology Office to design and maintain technical assessments that reflect real-world job requirements
  • Write, test, and refine coding challenges, take-home exercises, and interview questions
  • Conduct and oversee interviews focused on technical depth, problem-solving, and team fit
  • Coordinate closely with HR to provide calibrated compensation input based on candidate experience
  • Maintain metrics on hiring funnel efficiency and assessment effectiveness (e.g., pass rates, time-to-hire)
  • Workforce Planning & Skills Alignment
  • Partner with engineering leaders to align hiring priorities with long-term capability needs
  • Collaborate on skill tree development, capability mapping, and role definition
  • Provide insights to inform onboarding, internal mobility, and engineering growth strategy
  • Engineering Contribution
  • During periods of limited hiring activity, serve as a contributing member of a Scrum team
  • Assist with backlog items, technical spikes, and feature delivery using your engineering expertise
  • Support cross-team surges in capacity during high-priority development cycles

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a software engineer with the ability to write, review, and debug production-quality code (ideally in .Net, Angular, AWS, Containers)
  • Demonstrated success in technical hiring, interviewing, or running assessment programs
  • Strong understanding of software engineering roles, career paths, and evaluation best practices
  • Effective communicator with the ability to partner across technical and non-technical functions
  • Familiarity with Agile development, Scrum ceremonies, and team collaboration tools
  • Bonus: Experience with applicant tracking systems and data-driven hiring optimization
  • Security+ Certification
