About the role:  We're looking for a Technical Lead, Financial Crimes to join our Technology & Transformation team and take ownership of the technical design, delivery, and ongoing performance of our financial crimes platforms. This is a hands-on SME role for someone who wants to combine deep payments expertise with a genuine focus on fighting fraud and financial crime - working across real time AML and fraud management systems that directly protect our customers. You'll provide technical leadership and mentorship to the team, guide the design and integration of secure, compliant, and scalable financial crime solutions, and ensure these platforms remain reliable, resilient, and aligned with our strategic goals. This role is offered as a 12 months Fixed Term Contract with potential permanency or extension Key Responsibilities * Technical Leadership – Provide expert technical guidance to the Financial Crimes team on the design, integration, and operational handover of financial crimes solutions. * AML & Fraud Platform Delivery – Lead the design, development, and implementation of real-time AML and fraud management platforms that are secure, compliant, and user-friendly. * Solution Architecture – Collaborate with architects and stakeholders to design scalable and secure financial crimes solutions that meet business, security, and compliance requirements. * Change Management – Oversee changes into production, ensuring development and testing adhere to ITIL standards and Secure, Stable & Resilient (SSR) practices, minimising risk to customers and staff. * Team Collaboration – Work closely with product owners, delivery leads, and analysts to ensure seamless integration of financial crimes platforms with other banking systems. * Technical Mentoring – Guide and develop junior team members, promoting knowledge sharing and technical growth across the team. * Performance & Reliability – Identify performance bottlenecks and drive optimisation strategies to maintain platform stability and minimise downtime. * Risk Management – Take accountability for risk management plans and processes relating to financial crimes systems. * Documentation – Maintain clear technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, design specifications, and technical standards. * Stakeholder Communication – Translate technical concepts into clear updates for management, sponsors, and cross-functional teams.   About You You're a Payments and Cards - financial crime technology specialist who thrives on solving complex, high-stakes problems. You bring strong technical leadership skills, a collaborative mindset, and a genuine interest in staying ahead of emerging fraud and financial crime threats. You're comfortable operating in a regulated environment, balancing security and compliance with a great customer experience, and you enjoy mentoring others while continuing to build your own expertise. Knowledge and Experience Essential * Extensive experience in financial services and IT operations * Hands-on experience with real-time AML and Fraud management platforms * Expertise in debit and credit cards, tokenisation, and switch management (Authentic & Postillion), ATMs, Visa, Eftpos & IPEX * Strong technical acumen in payments – NPP and Batch Processing * Proven experience in solution design, software development, and integration projects * Familiarity with agile software development methodologies * Strong documentation and written communication skills Desirable * Technical familiarity with current and/or future-state systems, including ACI and Fiserv products * Technical understanding of networking and software development * Familiarity with SQL Management Studio and building queries * Experience across multiple delivery methodologies, with the ability to adapt to the selected project approach   Why you’ll love working with us:   People First Bank – our new brand – says exactly what we’re all about: people.
