You will define and own quality strategies across multiple squads—aligning practices to product risk, team maturity, and organisational objectives. Equip teams with the right tools and patterns for effective, maintainable, and proportionate automation that accelerates delivery Partner with Engineering Team Leads to embed quality practices within delivery workflows, stepping directly into teams to enable and establish new standards Evolve our testing technologies and frameworks, aligning teams where it makes sense to capitalise on efficiencies of scale Advise on quality roles and team design, recommending where and how QA, automation, and engineering capabilities best fit Collaborate with Engineering Leadership to drive progress toward Continuous Delivery and build confidence in every release Tackle systemic quality challenges, creating visibility, measurement, and sustainable improvements that strengthen our engineering ecosystem Qualifications What are we looking for? This role will suit someone with a technical background who is passionate about driving processes that enable engineers to deliver on QA or Automation initiatives. Proven experience leading quality or test-automation initiatives across multiple engineering teams or complex products Strong grounding in modern software engineering practices — including CI/CD, trunk-based development, and risk-based testing strategies Deep technical understanding of test frameworks, automation patterns, and tooling across web, API, and mobile platforms Demonstrated ability to align testing strategy with delivery goals, product risk, and organisational context — avoiding over-engineering and maximising impact Experience embedding quality practices directly within cross-functional squads, influencing outcomes without formal authority Skilled communicator and collaborator, capable of building trust with engineers, leads, and executives to drive sustainable quality improvement Additional Information A few other things we want to let you know about... carsales is an equal opportunity employer and we pride ourselves on fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
