We are looking for a talented individual to lead on the design and delivery of minor highways projects

ABOUT US

Engineering Design Services (EDS) is Warwickshire County Council’s service delivery team for civil engineering projects. EDS provides:

  • project delivery advice;
  • project and programme management services;
  • engineering feasibility and detailed design services;
  • technical review services (leading to highway authority technical approval of third-party design proposals);
  • NEC contract procurement services; and
  • NEC contract administration and construction supervision services

for highways, bridges (and other structures) and traffic control projects. EDS also provides a specialist bridge maintenance and traffic control systems maintenance services, the latter involving urban traffic management and control (UTMC) features.
EDS is delivering many engineering projects ranging from minor highway improvements, junction improvements and cycle schemes up to major £multi-million engineering infrastructure improvement projects.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • We need a Technical Lead who can:
  • lead on developing engineering expertise within the team so that it realises its full potential as a design and delivery unit;
  • build good relationships, engage with colleagues and stakeholders, and communicate effectively - both orally and in writing;
  • solve complex technical and logistical problems at the design and construction phases of projects, and also resolve problems which stem from a clash of opinions or objectives;
  • lead on the delivery of projects and act in a senior role on multiple construction contracts – ensuring adherence to contract terms and specifications;
  • assist the Team Manager in developing quality controlled processes, maintaining important records (including financial records) and act in a well-organised manner;
  • manage the conflicting priorities and demands associated with local authority infrastructure delivery; and
  • remain composed in difficult circumstances, exercise sound judgement and make critical decisions.

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

EDS Highways Capital Projects leads on the highway design element of both minor and major projects designed in-house. It works closely with EDS Project and Programme Management in bringing together all of the other specialist design teams to provide design solutions, procure the necessary contracts and supervise the construction of civil engineering works on site.
We are looking for a confident, experienced engineer, with a wealth of highways technical knowledge and strong leadership capabilities to perform a senior role within the EDS Highways Capital Projects section. The role is a Technical Lead role in our Minor Projects team and the postholder will lead and manage the design, technical output and delivery of a large portfolio of Active Travel schemes, highway improvement schemes (including junction improvement schemes) and Public Realm enhancement schemes. The workload will be diverse and challenging, and the results will be rewarding – the postholder will play a key role in the creation of highway infrastructure and public space which will greatly improve the travel experience and local environment for many people in and around Warwickshire.
