Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technical Manager to join our dynamic and research-driven team. In this pivotal role, you will bridge our breeding programmes with successful commercialisation, ensuring new crop varieties meet customer needs, market drivers, and regulatory requirements. The position requires technical expertise in plant breeding and the ability to translate research outcomes into commercially successful products.
This role requires business travel both within the UK and Europe with some travel occurring outside of standard working hours.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a technical link between breeding, product development, marketing, and sales teams to ensure variety positioning aligns with customer needs and timelines.
  • Lead the evaluation of pipeline and candidate varieties through multi-location trials, analysing performance data to guide advancement and recommendations.
  • Develop and apply product advancement criteria to ensure robust, evidence-based decision-making.
  • Generate technical data to support sales, including agronomic trials and end-use performance analysis (breadmaking, malting, distilling, animal feed, bioethanol etc.).
  • Manage technical relationships with end users and industry bodies, including Milling Wheat and Malting Barley stakeholders.
  • Support intellectual property protection, regulatory submissions, and variety registration.
  • Contribute to technical marketing content and provide training to internal teams and partners.
  • Promote continuous improvement in trialling, breeding technologies, and digital tools.
  • Maintain strong relationships with agency crop suppliers and manage third-party registrations and Plant Breeders’ Rights.
