Description

This recruitment ifs for multiple Technical Manager roles within Rail Systems. Rail Systems is delivering the Digital Systems Program (DSP), replacing current signalling and train control technology on the Sydney Trains network with modern internationally tested intelligent systems. These technology systems allow track, train and signalling systems to communicate continuously and will help improve safety and reliability, enabling future capacity and journey time improvements for train passengers. Working as part of a team delivering complex engineering activities, this role will see you lead and manage technical tasks, integrate engineering requirements, manage risk, contribute to design and development, inspect and test installed systems, and support project delivery across scope, quality, time and cost outcomes. You will drive consistent engineering standards and efficient technical outcomes in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities, diverse stakeholders and evolving project challenges. You’ll contribute to safer, more reliable rail operations while expanding your technical expertise in a complex, high profile program. In this role you will take carriage of design and test report reviews, resolve technical issues, and provide project management for specialist technical engineering services. You will contribute to the delivery of DSP, its component subsystems, and System integration In this role you will: Provide technical advice on governance and project issues. Advice on resolution to technical problems. Identify design risks and opportunities. About You: You will be an expert in your field and have demonstrated experience managing and mentoring a team of engineers, working across senior levels within a large and complex organisation, providing technical leadership to influence project outcomes, and bring: Proven experience in managing technical design and engineering services, including reviewing designs, resolving technical issues, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulatory requirements. Strong understanding of project management principles, including risk management, scheduling and cost control, applied to complex infrastructure or engineering projects. Experience coordinating with stakeholders, contractors and regulatory authorities to achieve project objectives and ensure alignment across multiple disciplines. Experience providing expert strategic and technical advice to senior stakeholders to inform decision making. You are consultative and outcomes focused, you stay across emerging trends, and innovative practices and sector developments. Key Challenges Managing complex and sensitive consultations and negotiations with diverse stakeholders, within agreed timelines, given their varying expectations, viewpoints and interests. Contribute to policies that balance complex and multiple issues with sensitivity to relationships with stakeholders, and service delivery impacts. Operating in an organisation with varying levels of technical and process maturity and reducing technical complexity where significant technical interdependencies exist Essential Requirements You possess at least 10 years of experience in one of the following three technical domains: European Train Control System (ETCS) / Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) / Signalling and Interlocking Understanding of Trackside equipment (Lineside Electronic Units, Balises, Interlockings, Radio Block Centers) and their integration with other subsystems, i.e. Onboard, Traffic Management / Control systems., Digital Train Radio Systems (DTRS), Fixed Telecommunication Network (FTN) Understanding of complex conventional signalling, ETCS Level 1 and Level 2. Sydney Trains network experience, with a proven track record navigating the legacy systems currently in place on the Sydney suburban network. Digital Train Radio / Communications Back Bone systems e.g. FTN proven, hands-on experience within the DTRS (Digital Train Radio System) and FTN (Fixed Telecommunications Network) working knowledge of Sydney Trains’ specific FTN and DTRS architecture, and legacy communications interfaces. IT/OT Solution Architecture / Cyber security in the Rail Domain Extensive previous experience with solutions architecture, business and systems requirements, and technical design and analysis in a complex and maturing technical environment Experience with contemporary business technologies and architectural frameworks in a multi-sourced and/or federated operating environment Knowledge of Cyber Security standards, such as IEC 62443-2-1 (Asset Owner) or IEC 62443-3-3 (System Security Requirements) in an industrial setting. Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated relevant and equivalent professional experience. Preferred: IRSE (Institution of Railway Signal Engineers) membership, Certified Professional Engineer (CPEng), or equivalent professional recognition.
