SCHOOL OF CREATIVE ARTS ACADEMY OF VISUAL ARTS Technical Officer (25260428) The Academy of Visual Arts is the first-of-its-kind local institution in delivering Visual Arts education, which is looking for responsible and energetic team players to join the technical team. The appointee is expected to provide support to both teaching of courses and administrative duties of studios and will be stationed at the Kai Tak Campus. Responsibilities: Supervise and ensure the seamless daily operation of the ceramic studio, from studio management, procurement of materials and equipment, inventory management, equipment maintenance; Provide technical guidance and support to students of all levels during and after class, offering advice on ceramic techniques, glaze chemistry, and kiln firing processes; Oversee kiln operation and maintenance, collaborating with instructors and students to establish firing schedules and troubleshooting any firing-related issues, while strictly adhering to safety protocols; Support the use of 3D printing and digital design software (Fusion, Rhino, Grasshopper, etc.) within ceramic practice; Foster a positive, safe and inclusive studio environment through ceramic projects, workshops, and events organised by course instructor and the Academy; and Occasional weekend and/or evening work may be required. Requirements: A bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Ceramics or a related field with at least 1 year of post-qualification experience or equivalent practical experience; Extensive knowledge of ceramics, including glaze chemistry, clay properties, and proficiency in a wide range of ceramic making techniques such as handbuilding, wheel throwing, mould making, and slip casting; Proficiency in operating and maintaining electric kilns. Experience with gas/hybrid, raku, barrel, and wood kilns is a strong advantage; Proficiency or a strong interest in digital ceramics and 3D printing technologies is a plus; Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic studio environment Self-motivated and be able to work independently; Good interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and be a good team player; and Proficiency in computer applications, particularly MS Office (e.g., Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. The initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of two years. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
