  • a bachelor’s degree in the following fields; Biochemistry, Medical Science, Pharmacology or Pharmacy
  • the ability to apply and contribute to the development, maintenance, and review of standard technical documentation and operating procedures
  • demonstrated experience in cell culture, ELISA, microbiology, molecular biology, and/or chemical preparation techniques
  • demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work. Along with the demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work, sometimes under pressure, with competing priorities and limited supervision
  • experience of optimising protocols and an ability apply and contribute to the development, maintenance, and review of standard technical documentation and operating procedures
  • relevant experience preparing, streamlining, set up/pack down of higher educational laboratory classes as well as experience with safety and compliance training in this workspace
  • sound working knowledge and experience in implementing of safety regulations (OGTR/PC2) and operating procedures within the laboratory environment, including relevant experience the safe handling/storage/disposal of biological waste and hazardous substance.

Responsibilities
  • perform whole-of-life handling, storage and disposal of restricted/hazardous waste, materials, and specimens in accordance with established technical and safety procedures
  • support the implementation of service improvements and service excellence within the responsibility area
  • develop strong, collaborative, functional relationships within TSS and with other relevant University teams, to enable delivery of effective technical services
  • support the Senior Technical Officer in planning and managing resources (e.g. equipment, consumables, services, etc.) and ensuring that critical teaching and research priorities are met
  • lead by example by visibly adhering to established WHS/compliance procedures and leading practices, including all customer-facing activities and communications
  • monitor, report on and carry out corrective actions on WHS and legislative compliance of the work environment, including in relation to building-related maintenance and facility cleaning
