With one of the largest listed defence company market capitalisations in Australia and having raised approximately $250m in 2024 alone, DroneShield is undergoing hypergrowth stage, fuelled by rapidly increasing use of drones for nefarious applications, from battlefield, to terrorism, to contraband delivery and commercial espionage.
This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Pyrmont, Sydney. There are approximately 250 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 300 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in procurement or supply chain roles within a technical industry.
  • Strong knowledge of electronic, mechanical, and software component procurement.
  • Experience negotiating supplier contracts and managing vendor relationships.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and datasheets.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems for procurement and inventory management.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of ITAR, EAR, and other export control regulations.
  • Certification in supply chain management (e.g., APICS, CIPS, CPM) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with agile procurement processes for rapid prototyping and product development.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

The company is seeking a Technical Procurement Engineer to support our development and design teams by sourcing critical components for our advanced systems.
The position will report to the Supply Chain Manager, with key internal customers including Engineering, Electronics and Design leads, in support of their product development milestones.
This role is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and sourcing components necessary for product development, prototyping, and scaling of production. This role works closely with engineering, R&D, and supply chain teams to ensure timely procurement of high-quality, cost-effective components while maintaining compliance with industry and export controls.

RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Develop and execute procurement strategies for technical components.
  • Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers to meet technical and operational requirements.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery terms with suppliers.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to align procurement with design development needs.
  • Source electronic, mechanical, and software components for R&D and production.
  • Track component obsolescence and recommend suitable alternatives.
  • Maintain accurate procurement documentation and records.
  • Support quality assurance processes and ensure components meet required standards.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising performance.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings to optimise procurement strategies.
  • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and negotiate best terms.
  • Adhere to ethical procurement practices and maintain confidentiality.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in procurement and supply chain processes.
  • Work closely with logistics teams to manage inventory and timely delivery.
