Description
Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering within the Schulich School of Engineering invites applications for a Technical Research Assistant. This Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 3 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Technical Research Assistant will explore existing and novel means of measuring direct-normal and diffuse solar irradiance in the field. This role will on average be 20 hours/week from early July through late September 2025 and will mostly be work from home with occasional in-person meetings on campus.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Conduct a brief review of existing field-based irradiance measurement techniques.
  • Propose preliminary procedures for expedient in-field estimation of direct-normal and diffuse irradiance.
  • Determine whether custom measurement hardware is needed; and compile a bill of materials to enable the envisioned field measurement procedure.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • BSc in Electrical Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic equipment.
  • Independent thinker and investigator.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Prior experience with electronic hardware design is an asset.
