Escapes.ca is a leading Canadian travel agency offering customized vacation experiences. We’re seeking a junior-level Technical SEO Coordinator to join our marketing team and take ownership of technical SEO and emerging generative engine optimization (GEO) strategies. You’ll play a critical role in fixing outdated practices, establishing new standards, and improving our organic performance using tools like SEMrush and Yoast Premium.

JOB SUMMARY:

We’re looking for a junior Technical SEO Coordinator to join our marketing team on a part-time basis. This is a support-focused role dedicated solely to technical SEO, with no content strategy or paid media involved. You’ll work with tools like SEMrush, Yoast Premium, and Google Search Console to resolve technical SEO issues and improve overall site health and visibility.
Your primary objective will be to reverse recent sales declines by systematically improving our digital presence, enhancing search engine dominance, and building a sustainable framework for future growth.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone early in their SEO career who’s eager to get hands-on experience, contribute meaningfully from day one, and grow within a fun, supportive team in the travel industry. The role is temporary with the potential to become ongoing.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Expert-level, hands-on proficiency with SEMrush and Yoast Premium for WordPress. You should be able to configure, troubleshoot, and extract maximum value from these tools.
  • Proven experience creating and implementing SEO SOPs and best-practice documentation in an environment where none previously existed.
  • A strong understanding of, and practical experience with, the principles of Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) and its impact on traditional SEO.
  • Demonstrable track record in technical and on-page SEO, with a portfolio of projects showing measurable improvements in rankings, traffic, and conversions.
  • Deep understanding of how website structure, performance, and Core Web Vitals directly impact search rankings and the ability to articulate this to development teams.
  • Ability to analyze competitor SEO strategies and identify actionable, data-driven insights to gain a competitive edge.
  • An inherent ability to “work together” and “align” teams, acting as a collaborative partner to marketing and development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of the travel industry or a passion for travel is a plus.

Responsibilities
  • Establish SEO Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Develop, document, and implement clear SEO SOPs and best practices to eliminate inconsistent tactics and create a unified, effective workflow across teams.
  • Technical & On-Page Auditing: Leverage SEMrush and Yoast Premium to conduct deep technical and on-page audits of our WordPress site, identifying and creating a prioritized roadmap to fix legacy issues, from crawlability and indexing problems to site architecture weaknesses.
  • Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) Strategy: Develop and integrate a GEO strategy to ensure our content is optimized for conversational search and AI-driven results, positioning Escapes.ca as an authoritative answer for Canadian travel queries.
  • Advanced Keyword & Content Alignment: Go beyond basic keyword matching. Ensure page titles, meta descriptions, headings, and all content elements on our key landing pages (e.g., Cancun, Punta Cana) are meticulously aligned with high-intent keywords and user search patterns, fully utilizing the analytical capabilities of SEMrush and Yoast.
  • Performance & UX Collaboration: Work directly with the development team on critical UX and performance enhancements. Use data to advocate for improvements like optimizing our “Beta Search” function and implementing new server technology for faster response times, directly tying these technical projects to SEO outcomes.
  • Competitive On-Site SEO Execution: Analyze and systematically improve on-site SEO factors to elevate rankings for pages currently in positions 5-20, while developing and executing a long-term plan to secure top 3 positions for our most valuable commercial terms.
