An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Additive Manufacturing and Hydrogen Technologies Team at Manchester Metropolitan University as a Electric/Electronic Engineer Technical Specialist. Based in John Dalton , this is an exciting opportunity to use your specialist skills to support the research, teaching and industrial partners projects taking place in Manchester Metropolitan University.
The a project is funded from a cooperative agreement between Manchester Metropolitan University and the US ARMY DEVCOM. The post-holder will aim to remove the third-party components (potentiostat, smart phone and stirrer) and the manufacturer-imposed restrictions upon the user interface of a current “in-development” portal electrochemical sensor for heavy metals in water. This is a fixed term 12 month position that is estimated to start in June 2025 and end in May 2026.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Technical Specialist, you will:

  • Work independently in your specialist area, taking responsibility for a designated workspace and the provision of an excellent service.
  • Be responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and general maintenance of specialist equipment in your area.
  • Devise innovative solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Train service users in the use of specialist equipment and software.
  • Have detailed and extensive knowledge of theory and practice regarding programming, electrical and electronic engineering,
  • Explore publishing the findings from your research in peer reviewed journals.
  • Development of a closed source in-house potentiostat based upon pre-existing potentiostat technology.
  • Explore AI learning tools to expand the accuracy and operational functionality of electrochemical detection methodologies.

To succeed in this role, you will possess:

  • A doctoral level qualification (or significant industrial experience) in Electrical engineering and or software development.
  • Undergraduate degree in chemistry, engineering or a closely related subject.
  • Significant experience of electrical circuit engineering.
  • Significant experience with software development
