Everyone starting in a new role will be welcomed into the team and given all the training and support needed. As part of your comprehensive induction, you will be provided with all the equipment required for your role.
We are the Environment Agency, and we work to create better places for people and wildlife and support sustainable development by working in partnership with government, local councils, businesses, and communities to tackle the increasing demand and management of water as a resource in KSL and climate change’s effect on the environment.
We are looking for an enthusiastic hydrogeologist who can apply their knowledge and skills to help us to manage operational water resources activities in the Kent, South London, and East Sussex (KSLES) area.
Working closely with your colleagues, you will provide a high level of service and lead activities across the area supporting proactive water resources regulation data and information management.

The main responsibilities are:

  • Water resources planning
  • Abstraction Licence Strategies and Resources Assessment
  • Abstraction licence assessment and regulation
  • Analyse, interpret, and report on hydrometric data
  • Groundwater modelling and analysis
  • Groundwater Investigation Consents (GIC)
  • Leading work and assessment for water company statutory plans
  • Working with customers and partners such as consultants, catchment groups and other stakeholders
  • Customer enquiries and data requests
  • Responding to planning consultations
  • Technical support into Strategic Review Options
  • Mentoring and development of the team

The team
The Kent and South London Groundwater and Hydrology team promote an inclusive culture which brings together Hydrology, Hydrogeology and Water Resource specialists in a high performing and professional environment. A population of 6 million and increasing growth in the Southeast continues to challenge the balance between the natural environment and resources, with the team being primarily responsible for managing and regulating sustainable abstraction and water resources across Kent and South London.

Experience/skills required

  • Academic qualifications of minimum degree level (or equivalent), desirable MSc in a relevant environmental discipline
  • Extensive hydrogeology experience
  • Ability to produce and effectively interpret data to develop evidence
  • You will be able to communicate across a wide network of audiences, having the skills to turn technical detail into compelling argument for the respective audience
  • An in depth understanding of water resources and the wider EA business
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Contact and additional information
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The role will be based in Orchard House, West Malling and interviews are expected to be held week commencing 7th July 2025
