Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role, you will provide L3-level technical support for PLC, HMI and drive-based applications – including cloud connectivity – within the Motion Drive Product (MODP) portfolio. You will act as an expert contact for customers, partners, and internal stakeholders, ensuring reliable pre- and post-sales support and contributing to the continuous development of the technical ecosystem around our PLC solutions.
The work model for the role is: onsite / hybrid. #LI-Onsite / #LI-Hybrid
This role is contributing to the Motion Drive Products division in Heidelberg. Main stakeholders are customers, partners, local sales teams, technical support colleagues, product management, R&D and global support functions.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Providing technical support for customers and partners regarding PLC, HMI, drives and cloud-connected automation solutions
  • Coordinating with local and regional technical support units to resolve complex technical issues by understanding customer problems and reproducing them for effective troubleshooting
  • Delivering technical trainings to internal and external stakeholders inside and outside ABB
  • Preparing and maintaining technical documentation, and managing hosted infrastructure - such as application notes and example- on cloud platforms
  • Supporting customers with order-related technical queries and coordinating resolution with internal teams
  • Gathering customer and market feedback, sharing insights with Product Management and Product Marketing, and conducting benchmarking to support strategic product development
  • Ensuring a high-quality customer experience through clear communication and regular updates
  • Support Pilot 0 tests for new products and features

You will join a dedicated and highly skilled technical support team, where you will be able to contribute your automation expertise and collaborate closely across functions and countries.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

  • Degree in automation engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics or similar; alternatively, completed vocational training as an electronics technician for automation technology or in a related technical field
  • Proven programming and configuration skills of PLC, HMI and drive systems (ABB or comparable platforms)
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities for diagnosing software/ hardware faults; familiarity with tools such as Wireshark, basic Linux knowledge is beneficial
  • Logical thinking skills to trace issues through PLC code and system architecture
  • Familiarity with IT/networking industrial communication protocols and cloud connectivity
  • Ability to read and interpret technical schematics and drawings
  • Strong customer focus and structured problem-solving approach
  • Good command of English and German, both written and spoken
