Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Technical Specialist, you will:

  • Work independently in your mass spectrometry specialist area, taking responsibility for a designated workspace and the provision of an excellent service;
  • Promote the specialism internally and externally to ensure wide exposure leading to utilisation and engage in collaborative projects;
  • Work with stakeholders to develop new methods to support research projects;
  • Be responsible for the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of specialist equipment in your area;
  • Devise innovative solutions to complex technical problems;
  • Train service users in the use of specialist equipment and software.

TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL POSSESS:

  • Significant knowledge in the fundamental principles and theory of mass spectrometers;
  • Extensive experience in operating and maintenance of a wide range of mass spectrometers (e.g. LC-MS, GC-MS, tandem and high-resolution instrumentation) and ancillary equipment;
  • Experience of developing new methods and quality control;
  • Ability to use software relating to mass spectrometry e.g. MassHunter, MassLynx etc
