Description
Your Role in Our Story: As a Technical Specialist – Nature-Based Solutions, you will be part of ACT’s NBS team, working directly with project implementers, investors, and carbon standards. Building on ACT’s international structure, you will contribute to the diligence, development, and certification of projects around the world, including reforestation, reduced deforestation, soil recovery, and agricultural activities. You will be responsible for the end-to-end technical development of nature-based projects for the voluntary and compliance carbon markets, from (pre-)feasibility and design, through registration and certification with carbon standards, to carbon credit issuance. In essence, your role involves: Assessing the eligibility of activities to generate mitigation outcomes by testing the applicability of existing methodologies. Ex-ante quantifying the mitigation outcome potential of activities by applying the applicable carbon methodology or methodologies. Driving project conception and development, feasibility assessments, baseline and project scenario development, and methodology selection. Critically assessing project design quality, risks, and partner capabilities. Supporting Climate Project Managers and the Investment Team with project budgets, financial models, and commercial arrangements. Contributing to project design documents (PDDs) by developing monitoring plans and Measurement, Reporting & Verification (MRV) protocols. Supporting verification processes with third-party Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) and obtaining authority approvals for issuance and delivery of mitigation outcomes. Contributing, when relevant, to the design and registration of new carbon methodologies with the relevant standards. Your Expertise, Our Shared Success: To be successful in this role, you will bring a combination of technical knowledge, analytical ability, and field understanding related to nature-based climate solutions. Required skills: Strong knowledge of carbon market mechanisms and standards, methodologies, and MRV systems. Quantitative analytical capability, including ex-ante quantification of mitigation outcomes using applicable methodologies and scenario modelling. Ability to draft and structure technical documents such as monitoring plans, mitigation activity notes, and project design documents. Experience designing robust monitoring systems and ensuring correct implementation by project partners or co-developers. Proven ability to work collaboratively and communicate ideas clearly with diverse stakeholders. High attention to detail in technical assessments, documentation, and monitoring system design to ensure compliance with carbon standards. Strong analytical skills to evaluate carbon models, technical project designs, and operational implementation plans. Fluent in English; Spanish or Portuguese is a plus. Desired experience: 2–5 years of experience developing components of nature-based solutions or climate-related projects. Strong knowledge of nature-based solutions with practical experience assessing or deploying on-the-ground projects. Master’s degree (preferred) in forestry, agriculture, environmental sciences or engineering, climate change, sustainable development, carbon accounting, or business/finance. On-the-ground field experience in data collection, baseline surveys, technical capacity building, or technical due diligence. Experience in carbon accounting modelling and with carbon standards or IPCC carbon accounting principles. Basic use of GIS and geoprocessing software. Statistical analysis and sampling plan design are a plus. If you meet these criteria and are ready to contribute your expertise to a dynamic and challenging environment, we encourage you to apply.
