Apollo is an ambitious and growing company with factories in India and Europe, as well as sales offices around the world. About 160 employees work at Global R&D in Enschede to develop new (car) tires for Apollo and Vredestein. The Testing department is responsible for the testing of prototype tyres. This is done both indoor on test machines and outdoor on test tracks. The testing department operates internationally with activities throughout and outside Europe and has its base in the European R&D Centre in Enschede. Objective or the assignment There is currently no test vehicle available that complies with ASTM requirements for spin traction measurements on snow. This results in reliance on external parties, leading to reduced flexibility, increased costs, and limited control over test setup and data quality. Developing an in-house test vehicle will enable faster and more consistent testing, with improved control over measurement conditions. To achieve this, a technical specification must be defined that complies with relevant standards and regulatory requirements. In addition, analysis of vehicle and test data will be used to support the development of the control system. Subproblems Translation of ASTM standards into technical requirements for the vehicle design The vehicle must maintain a constant speed while the test wheel is spinning ]Controlled, measurable, and reproducible torque build-up for the test wheel Measurement of longitudinal (Fx) and vertical forces (Fz) at the test wheel Integration of a drive system (e.g., electric motor) for the test wheel The system must operate at temperatures down to -23°C Analysis of test data to determine control parameters and system behavior Your tasks Development of a technical specification for an ASTM-compliant test vehicle for spin traction measurements on snow Development of a control system for constant vehicle speed and controlled wheel spin Integration of accurate measurement of longitudinal (Fx) and vertical forces (Fz) Your profile Enrolled Bachelor or Master Preference for automotive testing Strong communication skills in English, any other language is a plus Experience with power BI and Matlab What do we offer A dynamic and innovative internship/graduation environment Colleagues from all over the world Own working space within the office building Possibilities to visit different test tracks Internship allowance ranging from EUR 600 to 850 per month, based on a full-time position.
