KEY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Strong problem-solving skills with deep knowledge of network administration and architecture
  • Proven hands-on experience in networking and diagnostics
  • Familiarity with monitoring and analytics tools (e.g., SolarWinds)
  • Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Industry experience as a Network engineer with relevant certifications (CCNA)
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, switching, and network security
  • Proficient in Cisco IOS and access control models
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication skills, and a valid driver’s license for site visits

Responsibilities

YOUR ROLE

The DCJ IDS Network and Communications division delivers secure, reliable data and voice services across all locations, including remote access via VPN. Connectivity is provided through technologies such as Dark Fibre, Wi-Fi, VPN, and WAN. Telephony solutions include desk phones, cloud-hosted platforms, and softphones tailored to departmental needs.
The Technical support officer maintains, and supports DCJ’s network infrastructure, ensuring performance and reliability. Responsibilities include monitoring, issue resolution, hardware replacements, and installations across sites such as Youth Justice Centres, Courthouses, and Correctional Centres. The role involves working independently while actively contributing to team-based operations and project delivery.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Install, upgrade, and replace network hardware across DCJ sites in NSW.
  • Configure network devices (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls) onsite and remotely.
  • Maintain knowledge of complex platforms to support enterprise systems integration.
  • Balance project and BAU tasks, ensuring timely resolution of ServiceNow tickets.
  • Follow change management policies and attend change review meetings.
  • Conduct site and quality audits and manage RMA requests for faulty hardware.
  • Monitor network performance, reliability, and capacity; apply upgrades and patches.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for approvals and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with DCJ technical standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with vendors and IT teams to resolve issues and improve network performance and capacity.
