Job Description
-De Beers Group has an opportunity for a motivated and energetic individual to join the Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Training (SHERT) department at the Gahcho Kué Mine Site based in the Northwest Territories. Reporting to the Training Superintendent, this position is responsible for delivering mine operations procedure and equipment training to surface mine personnel. Eighty percent of this role is in the field as an on-the-job trainer and twenty percent is maintaining training records. The ideal candidate is one who is committed to safe work practices and strives for zero harm.

QUALIFICATIONS-FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a heavy equipment operator and with various mine operations;
  • Valid Driver’s License;
  • Heavy Equipment Trainer & Assessor Certificate or the ability to achieve;
  • Train-the-Trainer Certification or the ability to achieve;
  • Ability to train mainly a Komatsu fleet (HM400 40 Ton, HD785 100 Ton conventional drive and 830E 220 Ton electric drive haul truck, WA1200 and WA900 Loaders, PC390, PC1250 and PC200 Excavators, PC5500 Shovel, D375 and D155 Dozers, HAMM3412 Packer and 16M Grader;
  • Level 1 Supervisor or ability to achieve;
  • Some experience of surface drill & blast operations would be an asset;
  • Knowledge of mine operations and open-pit mining equipment;
  • Ability to maintain scheduled training activities with mine operations and personnel;
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to operate within a Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);
  • Ability to train both mining equipment operations and mine operations procedures; and
  • Proven commitment to Safety, Health and Environmental standards.

Responsibilities
  • Works with mine operations and the SHERT department to conduct job risk assessments, safe work plans and planned task observations;
  • Provides on-the-job equipment, procedure and task training to De Beers and contract employees using established learning objectives;
  • Operates equipment and provides training in accordance with procedures, De Beers Canada, regulatory, environmental and safety compliance;
  • Uses competency-based training methodologies to ensure equipment operators work safely and efficiently;
  • Conducts ongoing operator field-based assessments and completes scorecards;
  • Utilizes training materials and sign-off forms for consistent and structured training;
  • Coaches, mentors, and assesses novices as well as established operators to improve performance; and
  • Maintains accurate records of all training activities and assessments for the Learning Management System.
