PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The GP Academy Technical Trainer is responsible for delivering high-quality, hands-on training to new and experienced technicians across Gregory Poole’s apprenticeship program, advanced Caterpillar technician training, and other technical development initiatives. This role requires a strong technical background, a passion for teaching, and the flexibility to cross-train in multiple disciplines.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Diesel Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Work Experience:

  • 4+ years of experience as a technician or technical trainer in heavy equipment, power systems, or related industries.
  • Strong knowledge of Caterpillar equipment and systems preferred.
  • Experience with instructional delivery, adult learning principles, and hands-on training.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Learning Management Systems (LMS).

Physical:

  • The job duties must be performed both in an office environment and in the field visiting and working at customer job sites.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs (tools, parts).
  • Frequent travel to branches to conduct employee and customer training.
  • . The employee must be able to pass a non-regulated DOT physical to operate a truck and trailer combination up to 26,000 lbs. and have the physical capabilities to climb stairs and large pieces of mobile heavy equipment.
  • The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to risk of electrical shock.
  • The employee frequently works in precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is exposed to wet/humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold or heat.
  • The noise level in the work environment may also be very loud.
  • This function requires normal eyesight to read and interpret technical information, as well as hearing and speaking ability to communicate with personnel with GPEC, our suppliers and those employed by our customers.

Other:

  • Caterpillar Instructor Accreditation or OEM training certifications strongly preferred; or gain certification within 6-12 months of hire date.
  • Experience with eLearning tools or blended learning environments.
  • MACS instructor certification and/or gain certification within 6-12 months of hire date.
  • Ability to travel to multiple Gregory Poole locations as needed.
  • Spanish fluency is a plus.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license.
