About the role DroneShield is seeking a Technical Writer with relevant experience to join the team in Sydney, New South Wales. The position will report to the head of the Digital Design Team. It represents a unique opportunity to produce written material in a novel technology space. The role is primarily focused on technical documentation of hardware and software products. It provides an exceptional chance for a results-driven individual to excel in a niche but rapidly growing sector. You will work collaboratively with engineers, testers, product managers, and usability experts to refine the end-user experience. Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations Edit, proof-read, and produce written technical documentation such as user manuals, quick-start guides, and training materials. Exceptional attention to detail in both technical content and final presentation. Completed documents should be structured to convey information most clearly to the end-user. Gather and absorb highly technical details to translate into clear, concise, and comprehensive documentation which can be easily understood by both technical and non-technical audiences. Liaise with key business stakeholders to understand documentation requirements, and with engineers/technical SMEs to ensure documentation is comprehensive and accurate. Collaborate with graphic designers and the rest of the Digital Design Team to ensure documentation is professional, readable and on-brand. Review and evaluate documents to ensure that they are fit for purpose. Update existing documents as needed, incorporating feedback and changes to products/services. Manage and communicate timelines and priorities in line with guidance from stakeholders, being able to respond to ad-hoc requests whilst maintaining high-quality standards. Organise and maintain documentation repositories, to ensure accessibility and maintain version controls so that documentation is consistent, compliant, and up-to-date. Contribute to new and existing documentation standards, processes, and guidelines. Qualifications, Experience and Skills Demonstrated ability to write and format effective customer-facing documentation for technical and non-technical audiences. Including user manuals, quick-start guides, and training materials. 2+ years proven experience writing in a Technology or Engineering field. Bachelor’s degree in a communication-related field, or equivalent practical experience. Experience working in Agile development methodologies is a plus Ability to translate complex and technical information into clear, concise, and everyday language that internal and external stakeholders can understand Exceptional written skills and excellent communication skills Strong understanding of technical writing principles and best practices Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously Familiarity writing in American English (a plus) Australian Citizen and able to successfully obtain and maintain a minimum Baseline Security Clearance.
