JOB SUMMARY

The Technical Writer III is a senior contributor responsible for creating and maintaining high-quality technical documentation that supports Panasonic Avionics’ IFEC systems. This role combines expert-level writing and editing skills with project management and process improvement capabilities to deliver clear and accurate content. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in aviation standards, structured authoring, and cross-functional collaboration to drive documentation excellence and operational efficiency.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Expert-level knowledge of aviation documentation standards, including ATA iSpec2200, S1000D, and Simplified Technical English.
  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Expert knowledge of structured authoring tools (e.g., XML, SGML), electronic publishing systems, and technical writing best practices; experience with Arbortext and Windchill is a plus.
  • Ability to lead documentation efforts, provide technical direction to project teams, and manage schedules, dependencies, and logistics across multiple functions.
  • Demonstrated experience providing identifiable contributions to the success of a specific product.
  • Familiarity with electronic engineering concepts and terminology relevant to IFEC systems and maintenance practices.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple priorities and adapt to shifting requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong attention to detail and a user-focused mindset.
  • Proven ability to identify and implement process improvements that enhance documentation quality, consistency, and efficiency.
  • Experience mentoring or guiding junior writers and contributing to team knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Strong project management skills to lead and coordinate cross-functional initiatives, manage competing priorities, and drive timely completion of engineering and support tasks.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree or equivalent experience in technical writing, engineering, aviation maintenance, or a related technical field.
  • 5–10 years of technical writing experience in the aviation, aerospace, or IFEC industry.
  • Experience leading documentation projects and contributing to cross-functional engineering or product support initiatives.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Up to 10% travel may be required to support on-site activities.
  • Working hour flexibility to support a global 24/7 organization.
Responsibilities
  • Write, revise, and maintain technical documentation in support of IFEC systems, components, and support equipment. Document types may include service bulletins, maintenance manuals, user guides, test procedures, and other publications, with scope varying by assignment or position.
  • Manage schedules and work activities, internally and/or with external providers to meet customer requirements and program delivery timelines, ensuring alignment across engineering and support teams.
  • Analyze source data, such as drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering hardware and software documentation, test reports, and commercial specifications; and create the most appropriate method of presentation in the applicable technical publication.
  • Validate documentation against technical requirements and specifications, resolving discrepancies through collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure deliverables meet operational and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure the technical accuracy, adequacy, and quality of technical publications by applying quality control processes and checks during product development; coordinating review of publication products with customers and other organizations; and classifying and tracking discrepancies noted through the review process.
  • Participate in engineering reviews and technical discussions to support the exchange of data and ensure documentation reflects current product configurations, system behavior, and user requirements.
    The salary or hourly wage range of $76,000 – $127,000 is just one component of Panasonic’s total package. The final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives. The minimum hourly wage for this role will be the greater of the posted range, or minimum wage for the location where the employee will be working, subject to local minimum wage requirements.
