Description Functional Overview: The Technical Writer will create, edit, and maintain technical documents for the company, with a heavy focus on supporting the IT department. This role requires meeting with programmers, system administrators, and internal stake holders to assess project requirements and gather feedback to create and maintain technical documents. Major Job Responsibilities, Functions, and Duties: Write, edit, and maintain technical documents for company needs, with a heavy focus on IT support and projects. Collaborate with IT and non-IT teams to generate technical and procedural documentation. Write, revise, and maintain internal system documentation, system validation documentation, process documentation, application documentation, and user guides as required by projects assigned. Meet with and interview subject matter experts, software developers, system administrators, and internal stakeholders to assess project requirements and gather feedback. Assess end user and audience needs for whom the documentation is intended; adjust tone and technical terms to meet those needs and ensure understanding. Convert technical jargon into user-friendly, plain language for both technical and non-technical audiences. Independently research project areas of focus and practice ongoing professional development in project assignment fields, with a heavy focus on IT. Create or work with graphic designer to create diagrams, charts, and other visual aids to assist readers in understanding a product or process. Use tools like GitHub, GitLab, or Markdown to manage documentation versions and workflows. Perform other related duties as assigned. Requirements General Job Requirements: Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, or related field, or equivalent experience. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Exceptional command of English grammar, with ability to produce clear, concise content. Ability to learn and understand software or networking concepts. Ability to learn and understand technical systems and transmit this understanding through clear, concise documentation. Ability to present complex data in clear, concise text. Willingness to take initiative to learn new concepts and understand complex issues. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to adapt and adjust to changing priorities. Effective attention to detail and displays a high degree of accuracy in work. Able to monitor own work for quality and thoroughness. Able to submit deliverables in a timely fashion and to meet deadlines. Displays a positive, team player attitude and ability to collaborate well with others. Proficiency with documentation publishing tools and familiarity with version control systems. Physical Job Requirements: Able to work full-time in the headquarters office located in Chicago, IL. Able to remain in a stationary position, either sitting or standing, for prolonged periods of time. Able to adjust or move objects up to 20 pounds. Able to move about the office to access common equipment such as filing cabinets, copier, printer, etc. Compensation: This is an entry-level Technical Writer position for someone with 0 - 4 years experience. The compensation the Technical Writer can expect to earn is $67,000 - $93,000 base salary, based on experience and qualifications.
