LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS IN QUEBEC

Knowledge of the English language is required for this role as the position described in this posting requires the candidate to communicate every day with a virtual team outside Quebec as well as communicate with different members of the organization, clients and suppliers located outside of Canada. For engineering positions, the candidate must also be able to read or modify technical documents from our main clients and write technical documents for these same clients.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Technical Writer, you will be responsible for:

  • Authoring documentation such as maintenance manuals, operation manuals, user manuals, service bulletins, and parts lists in a structured technical content environment using eXtensible Markup Language (XML)
  • Reviewing and interpreting engineering documentation such as engineering drawings, three dimensional (3D) models, test specifications and much more for various electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Working collaboratively within the technical publications group and with subject matter experts to ensure that all documentation is developed as efficiently and as accurately as possible
  • Supporting leadership in ensuring that all quality, cost and schedule requirements are met for all programs
  • Mentoring junior team members to impart best practices and help elevate the skill levels of everyone within the team.
  • Participating in a team environment focused on innovation, efficient work processes and customer satisfaction.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE

  • At least 7 years experience in a similar role authoring structured technical content in XML/Standardized General Markup Language (SGML) using tools such as Arbortext Editor or Oxygen
  • Experience authoring in S1000D and knowledge of the S1000D International Specification for Technical Publications
  • At least 3 years experience in a leadership role with experience reporting status to senior leadership, developing mitigation strategies to complete tasks on time and on budget, and leading teams of technical writers
  • Ability to communicate clearly with teammates within the technical publications team as well as with subject matter experts within the integrated logistics support, training and engineering teams
  • Ability to solve problems both independently and collaboratively in order to meet deadlines
  • Superior attention to detail, the ability to follow set procedures, and a desire for accuracy in job performance
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and Canadian government security clearance.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS DESIRED FOR THE ROLE

  • Experience with Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) technical publications and format
  • Experience in a hands-on capacity in a military equipment maintenance environment
  • Experience authoring in Simplified English.
