ABOUT THE ROLE Reporting to the Technician, Aquatic Restoration, this position is responsible for assisting and supporting the CVC’s Aquatic and Wetland Restoration Program and project implementation. This position supports the development of feasibility studies, conceptual and detailed designs, procurement, funding acquisition, planning, construction site support, implementation, and monitoring of restoration projects. Responsibilities also include supporting and conducting research; supporting the restoration performance monitoring program; supporting hiring of field staff; leading the assistant(s), volunteers or others in restoration field activities and supporting identification of restoration opportunities. This position involves interdepartmental coordination within CVC with technical experts, field staff, and volunteers. QUALIFICATIONS  * Post-secondary degree or diploma in ecosystem restoration, ecology, environmental science, natural resource management, or related field. * Valid ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s License in good standing. * Valid First Aid and CPR Certification or ability to obtain upon hire. * 1-2 years of implementing restoration projects. * 1-2 years of aquatic and wetland monitoring. * 1-2 years of supervising staff or volunteers. Knowledge, Skills, and Ability * Knowledge of restoration/construction techniques and principles, environmental monitoring, and health & safety protocols. * Knowledge of fisheries, fluvial geomorphology, stream processes, flora and fauna identification. * Working knowledge in data collection and basic restoration techniques such as planting, bioengineering, habitat surveys, and construction of habitat structures. * Ability to drive a truck, practice safe towing, and operate small machinery and power tools. * Ability to use monitoring equipment such as level loggers, flow meters, electrofishers, and RTK surveying equipment. * Ability to work outdoors conducting field tasks and construction-related activities in inclement weather or difficult terrain. * Strong oral and written communication skills. * Effective computer skills in MS Office; Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. * Experience with stream assessments, data management, and GIS are an asset. SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS * Support the Senior Coordinator(s), Aquatic/Wetland Restoration and Technician(s), Aquatic Restoration in the planning and implementation of restoration projects. * Support the Restoration Monitoring Program (RPM) coordinator with field sampling, scheduling of RPM tasks and staff, reporting, data analysis, and template creation. * Provide field supervision of hourly staff, with Technician support, to complete all assigned duties. * Collect field data including fish, fish habitat, and wetland characteristics using electrofishers, hoop nets, seine nets, temperature and level loggers, flow trackers, and surveying equipment. * Assist, or potentially lead, small-scale restoration projects such as sediment mat installation, exclusion fencing repair or replacement, invasive species management, etc. * Assist in the procurement of restoration implementation materials and services, funding acquisition, budget management, and deliverable tracking and reporting. * Assist in providing construction site support for contractors and consultants and performing site inspections. * Lead team field photo administration and management. * Lead the development of social media posts, newsletter articles and other small-scale communications products in collaboration with the Marketing and Communication Department. * Support administration tasks (workshop/equipment cleaning and organizing, the coordination of new safe operating procedures) and track restoration metrics. * Support relationships with key clients, landowners, partners and stakeholders (e.g. municipalities, NGO’s, internal CVC staff). * Ensure a safe working environment around the facility and in the field including following and ensuring staff follow health and safety procedures. * Other duties and projects as appropriate to the position.
