Job Title: Technician Department: Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture  Division: Mechanical Engineering Section: Engineering Shops- Machine Shop Grade: 8 Basic Functions: The Technician supports the daily operations of the machine shop and assists senior technicians, supervisors, faculty members, and students. The technician contributes to preparing equipment and materials for educational and research activities, maintaining machines, and supporting hands-on fabrication work. The role also involves assisting students in a supervised environment and ensuring that the shop remains safe, organized, and conducive to experiential learning.   1.      Duties Performed: * Prepares machines, tools, and materials for educational sessions and student projects as directed by supervisors. * Sets up equipment and ensures readiness of the shop for lab sessions and fabrication activities. * Performs routine maintenance of machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and basic inspection. * Carries out basic repairs and assists in tool maintenance (e.g., sharpening and adjustments). * Supports students during shop use by providing basic technical guidance under supervision. * Assists in the fabrication and manufacturing of parts for academic and research projects. * Supports senior technicians in machine operation, including machining and welding tasks. * Maintains organization and cleanliness of the shop, including proper arrangement of tools and equipment. * Assists in handling and organizing raw materials such as wood, metals, and other supplies. * Provides basic support in computer-related tasks (e.g., Microsoft Office tools). * Assists students and faculty with basic CAD modeling tasks when needed. * Performs other related duties as requested.   2.      Work Contacts: Frequent contact with shop supervisors, technicians, faculty members, and students during lab sessions and project work.   3.      Independence of Operation: Reports directly to the Engineering Shops Supervisor. Works under general supervision with tasks assigned on a regular basis. Completed work is subject to periodic review to ensure compliance with instructions, safety standards, and quality expectations.   4.      Supervisory Responsibility: No direct supervisory responsibilities. May provide basic guidance and support to students working in the shop under the direction of supervisors.   5.      Physical Effort: Moderate physical effort involving standing, walking, bending, lifting materials, and operating machinery for a significant portion of the workday.   6.      Work Conditions: Typical machine shop environment with moderate exposure to noise, vibrations, and mechanical equipment. Adherence to safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.     7.      Minimum Requirements: * Technical degree (B.T.) or equivalent in a relevant field. * 1–2 years of experience in a machine shop or similar technical environment. * Basic to good command of English; Arabic is required. * Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office; familiarity with CAD software is a plus.
