University Safety Office Technician (carrying the job title of ‘Safety Specialist’) Are you ready to apply your scientific or technical training in a role that directly supports research safety and regulatory excellence? The University Safety Office is seeking a committed and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Safety Specialist in the Technician grade. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the safety and integrity of laboratory operations across the University, with a strong emphasis on developing expertise in radiation protection. Key Responsibilities: (a) assisting in promoting and maintaining safe practices in laboratories and research facilities; (b) supporting the implementation of safety protocols across diverse scientific disciplines; and (c) taking an active role in radiation safety, including: • managing radioactive substances and irradiating apparatus; • co-ordinating health surveillance programmes for radiation workers; and • ensuring compliance with relevant safety regulations and standards. Requirements: (i) a Bachelor’s degree, Higher Diploma, or Higher Certificate in Physical Science, Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognised university or technical institute; OR a Diploma or Certificate in a relevant discipline from a recognised university or technical institute, plus at least 3 years’ relevant post-qualification work experience; (ii) a strong sense of responsibility; (iii) good interpersonal skills; and (iv) self-motivation and the willingness to learn. Having the ability to provide IT application support will be an advantage. Appointment will initially be made on a 2-year contract with contract-end gratuity, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
