University Safety Office Technician (carrying the job title of ‘Safety Specialist’) Are you ready to apply your scientific or technical training in a role that directly supports research safety and regulatory excellence? The University Safety Office is seeking a committed and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Safety Specialist at the Technician grade. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the safety and integrity of laboratory operations across the University, with a strong emphasis on developing expertise in radiation protection. The appointee will be responsible for (a) taking an active role in radiation safety, including: (1) radioactive contamination survey and calibration of radiation survey meters; (2) managing radioactive substances and irradiating apparatus; (3) co-ordinating health surveillance programmes for radiation workers; and (4) ensuring compliance with relevant safety regulations and standards; (b) assisting in promoting and maintaining safe practices in laboratories and research facilities; and (c) supporting the implementation of safety protocols across diverse scientific disciplines. Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s degree, Higher Diploma, or Higher Certificate in Physical Science, Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognised university or technical institute; OR a Diploma or Certificate in a relevant discipline from a recognised university or technical institute, plus at least 3 years’ relevant post-qualification work experience; (ii) a strong sense of responsibility; (iii) good interpersonal skills; and (iv) self-motivation and the willingness to learn. Appointment will initially be made on a 2-year contract with contract-end gratuity, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
