Responsibilities

As the Communications Satellite Technician, Represented, you will provide first-level technical support for all customer service/ teleport operation, installation, and maintenance processes at the South Mountain, Somis, Ca., Teleport. You will be responsible for the monitoring, operation, troubleshooting, and mainte-nance for satellite communications equipment at the Somis, Ca. teleport, and remote system monitoring and troubleshooting of the Haleiwa, HI teleport. Responsibilities also include maintaining ground opera-tions service throughput for aerial vehicles, cruise line services, in-flight internet, TT&C systems and partic-ipate in design, installation and operation of occasional missions. This is a union represented position.

You will be responsible for (this is not an exhaustive list):

  • Fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of the radio-frequency (RF) equipment used in large-scale satellite downlink and uplink operations; such as waveguide assemblies, cables, RF Systems, Fiber-Optic systems and Networks
  • Performs system to component-level troubleshooting as required on High-Power Amplifiers (HPA), fiber-optic systems, upconverters, downconverters, RF switch assemblies, Antenna Control Units (ACUs), Low-Noise Amplifiers (LNAs) and Low-Noise Block Downconverters (LNBs)
  • Performs maintenance and repair on large transmit/receive and receive-only satellite antenna systems
  • System level and bench level electronics troubleshooting
  • Must be able to effectively perform shift work as a cohesive part of a team and solely without supervision
  • The ability to read and interpret schematics, assemble wave guide systems, efficiently utilize Industry Standard test equipment, perform documentation tasks, and successfully interact with management & engineers is a must
  • Perform moderately complex on-site installation, preventative maintenance and routine repair or replacement of electronic and electromechanical equipment such as: up/down converters, HPA’s, fiber optic subsystems, LNA/LNB’s, antennas, IP and Baseband equipment (modems, multiplexers, DVB and Broadband technology platforms) and video systems
  • Maintains, monitors, and configures High Throughput Satellite (HTS) equipment at South Moun-tain Teleport, Somis, Ca., U.S.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues remotely, provide instruction via email, phone, and remote Moni-toring and Control (M&C) equipment
  • Apply electrical and electronic theory and related knowledge, usually under the direction of engi-neering staff, to build, repair, calibrate, and modify electrical components, circuitry, controls, and machinery
  • Install, calibrate, and maintain integrated computer/communications systems consoles, simula-tors, and other data acquisition, test, and measurement instruments and equipment to support Satellite launch, track, position, and evaluation missions
