Description

Our GFL Emergency Response division is looking for Emergency Response Technicians to join the growing team in Kitchener, ON! We are looking for a responsible and reliable candidates to provide emergency response support for our organization.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Post-secondary education, preferably in a related area of study.
  • Pre-service Fire, Medical, or Police training.
  • NFPA 472 Hazardous Material Operations.
  • NFPA 1001 level 1 or 2.
  • On-call work availability for emergency response.
  • Hazardous materials and/or environmental experience an asset.
  • Vacuum truck experience an asset.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Confined space awareness.
  • Reliable means of personal transportation
  • Willingness to work at extreme heights and within confined spaces.
  • Participate in pre-employment and post-incident drug & alcohol testing.
  • Professional and trustworthy, with a customer focus to his/her work.
  • Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Valid Certification in First Aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities
  • Conduct environmental clean-up activities.
  • Ensure Hazardous-Materials incident mitigation.
  • Perform chemical transfers.
  • Perform technical rescue activities.
  • Involvement in chemical firefighting tasks.
  • Provide dangerous goods consulting.
  • Participate in various Industrial services.
  • Responding to various emergencies as requested.
  • Participating in job specific and health & safety training as required.
  • Operating his/her position in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Participating in standby confined space rescue work.
  • Completing work related documentation and reporting.
  • Follow all established organizational policies and procedures.
  • Support the vision and values of the organization.
  • Promote and participate in a work environment free of workplace harassment and violence.
  • Perform work in a safe manner, so as not to endanger oneself or others.
  • Reporting workplace hazards, accidents or other occurrences that may pose a risk to the organization or the safety of oneself or others.
  • Adhere to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety & Insurance Board Act, Ontario Human Rights Code and Employment Standards Act.
  • Participate in team/staff meetings when required.
  • Work in a manner that preserves confidentiality and minimizes risk.
