Job Introduction
We’re looking for a Technician Engineer to join our Systems Engineering Team to help us make a difference to our planet.
As our Systems Engineering Team - Technician Engineer, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.
Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week, based in Exeter. Our people are at the heart of what we do and we’ll do our best to agree a working pattern that works for everyone. Whilst this is a temporary position for twelve months, there is potential for it to develop into a permanent position.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrable experience of being an expert by nature, providing proactive engineering and technical insight into the solving of hardware and IT tasks or problems.
  • Evidence of working better together with colleagues and stakeholders to understand the requirements for your work. Contributing to the development of plans to meet these requirements.
  • Examples of applying good Quality Assurance processes, best practice, standards and/or regulations to all aspects of your work to achieve the agreed standard.
  • Demonstrable experience of health and safety competence in an engineering environment.
  • Evidence that you keep evolving by identifying and implementing changes and improvements to operational processes and services.
  • Evidence of accurate and concise communication with colleagues and/or other stakeholders to develop trust and credibility, tailoring your method of sharing to a range of audiences.
  • Possess a valid UK driving licence and be prepared to drive officially provided pool vehicles; Colour Perception CP2 or better is required to utilise vehicles on airports or ports.
Responsibilities
  • Supporting the delivery of work plans, which embrace and drive the evolution of Met Office systems and products. Providing advice and services for the benefit of Met Office Customers
  • Following and contributing to design specifications for small- and medium-scale engineering projects. Planning for the hardware installation of hardware components and equipment.
  • Using both practical and IT skills to construct and configure system and sub-system builds of Automatic Weather Stations in a workshop environment.
  • Commuting to sites to complete field-based installations. Using physical skills for digging and electro-mechanical construction.
  • Using an asset management database to maintain up to date work tasks and asset records.
  • Using excellent communication skills in both written and verbal format to support other team members and improve the effectiveness of the department
