Description:

THIS POST IS FULL TIME AND PERMANENT, WORKING 35 HOURS PER WEEK.

To work as a Fashion Technician, delivering a range of customer-focused technical services within the Fashion Design team across the DCDI College, supporting the School of Media and Communication and the School of Arts. This role involves providing support to both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as the core activities of the College, Schools and their users.
The post requires a Fashion Technician, who can provide technical support and assistance to students in their practical coursework, focusing on fashion design and garment production. You will conduct workshops on the use of industry-standard fashion equipment such as sewing machines, overlockers, industrial steam irons and other specialised equipment. Your role will also involve participating in and supporting the end of year fashion show.
As the successful candidate you will ensure that all fashion studio facilities, equipment, and materials are properly maintained, organised, and readily available. Additionally, you will implement health and safety compliance measures and conduct risk assessments tailored to the fashion studio environment. You will work closely with academic staff to enhance the student learning experience and maintain high standards of technical service for colleagues, students and external clients.
The chosen candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of fashion design and garment construction processes, including pattern cutting, draping, sewing, and garment finishing, alongside proficiency in understanding fabrics, fabric manipulation. Familiarity with textile processes and CAD software/hardware such as CLO3D, body scanners, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, is desirable. Prior experience in a fashion studio environment, particularly within an educational setting, is advantageous.
To uptake the role you will have excellent organisation, IT and communication skills; be able to work both under direction and independently; have experience of working within interdisciplinary fashion teams; be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety or staff and students; and possess enthusiasm to part take in any required staff development.
