Job Details Job Location: San Antonio, TX 78229 Salary Range: $18.00 - $18.00 Hourly WMSS Sharps Technician (Healthcare Facilities) Location: Multiple healthcare facilities (statewide assignments) Schedule: Monday–Friday | 40 hours/week Shift times vary based on assigned hospital or tower Position Overview The WMSS Sharps Technician supports Waste Management Sustainability Services (WMSS) by handling and transporting medical waste within healthcare facilities. This role is physically demanding and safety-critical, focused on the proper collection, movement, and management of sharps, hazardous and non-hazardous pharmaceutical waste, and regulated medical waste throughout hospital environments. This is an on-site hospital role requiring reliability, physical stamina, and strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities Collect, transport, and install sharps containers and medical waste containers throughout healthcare facilities Handle hazardous and non-hazardous pharmaceutical waste in compliance with regulations Ensure proper waste segregation, labeling, and tracking documentation Maintain clean, organized work areas and accurate logs Meet regulatory shipment windows and compliance standards Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce waste volume Perform manual labor, including walking long distances throughout hospital campuses Wear required PPE and follow all safety procedures Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, or injuries Follow EPA, OSHA, DOT, and ISO 14001/9001 requirements Provide excellent customer service and use de-escalation skills when needed Assist with additional tasks as assigned Physical Requirements Must be comfortable walking 10–12 miles per day Lift and carry up to 30 lbs regularly and 50 lbs occasionally Work in environments with exposure to medical waste, chemicals, odors, noise, and varying temperatures Perform duties indoors and outdoors, including inclement weather Qualifications Required Qualifications Valid Texas Driver’s License (no state ID only) Reliable personal transportation (no rideshare or public transit) Ability to obtain required vaccinations or provide proof of immunity from a healthcare provider High School Diploma or GED (required) Associate’s Degree preferred, or 2+ years of relevant experience Comfortable working in hospital and clinical environments Strong attention to detail and safety awareness Preferred: 24-Hour HAZWOPER certification Onboarding Requirements Cisive background check Drug screen Required vaccinations (completed after offer and clearance of background/drug screen) PPE & Equipment All PPE provided onsite, including gloves, masks, and safety glasses Uniforms and safety shoes provided by WM Important Notes for Candidates Resumes are reviewed by the WMSS Resource Manager Interviews are coordinated through the Talent Consultant if selected This role requires reliability, physical endurance, and strict safety compliance Why Join WMSS Stable weekday schedule Meaningful work supporting healthcare safety and sustainability All PPE and uniforms provided Opportunity to work in a regulated, professional healthcare environment
