Location: Walkerton, Ontario
WCWC is an agency of the Government of Ontario to ensure clean and safe drinking water for the province. WCWC provides education and support to drinking water system owners, operators, operating authorities, First Nations communities and the public. WCWC also provides pilot testing services to help clients with water treatment challenges.
We are looking for a dynamic and curious individual who is comfortable working with hand and small power tools. Although some laboratory experience is an asset, the person will be focused on fixing or putting together equipment used for our hands on training for our clients. If you have an aptitude for problem solving and fixing things or generally putting things together, you may be the person we are looking for.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Research and Technology (R&T) Department including operation and maintenance of equipment of the Technology Demonstration facility/laboratory, shipping and receiving of all training equipment, pilot testing projects and assisting in the set up and delivery of select hands-on training courses.
The position reports to the Manager of Research and Technology and also receives guidance and/or direction from R&T Department staff and Training Operations personnel.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
Decision-making
Specific decision-making skills are required in the maintenance and operation of several pieces of technology and equipment in the Centre’s Technology Demonstration Facility when conducting pilot testing, hands-on training and lab analysis.
Ingenuity and Creativity
The position will contribute ideas and suggestions for revising procedures and processes such as the storing, maintenance and shipping of training equipment and the building of pilots for testing projects.
Impact of Action
This position must ensure organization within department processes in order to prevent delays, additional expense, and customer dissatisfaction (e.g. shipping correct course equipment using proper methods, in good working order and on time). Will be responsible for the transportation of dangerous goods.
Financial Responsibility
Any purchases made will follow all accounting and procurement procedures and policies.
Responsibility for Leadership
The position does not have direct reports but may train and assist other incumbents to this role as part of the department team.
Responsibility for Customer Relationships
This position may be required to respond to or refer client inquiries via the Helpline and will respond to these inquiries in a timely manner.
Communication
Regular inside with staff and some outside contact with trainers, training participants, water treatment and distribution operators, product and service providers, contractors and the public using a variety of methods (e.g. phone, email, virtual). Tact and courtesy are required to give, obtain and/or exchange technical information and ensure full understanding.
Mental Effort
Periods of concentration and active listening will be required in this position (e.g. conducting lab analysis, reviewing peer papers, receiving Helpline inquiries) but often there is choice of action (e.g. choice of movement or switching tasks).
Physical Effort, Disruption and Working Conditions
The position requires constant periods of sitting to perform desk-based computer tasks. The position may require standing for prolonged periods of time and performing work in awkward positions. The position requires lifting, pulling and pushing of heavy or awkward equipment and materials (up to 50 lbs.) and regular use of equipment and tools requiring some degree of skill.
The position normally works routine hours with general control over the pace of work. This position works in an open office environment and experiences normal interruptions by others or equipment distraction. The position involves some exposure to background noise and occasionally extreme temperatures and hazardous chemicals. Some disruption to lifestyle due to travel and work outside of normal working hours.
