About the role The Technician III – Diesel Mechanic is a senior-level, highly skilled technician responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, major repairs, and comprehensive preventative maintenance on Class 7 & 8 trucks, and diesel-powered equipment. This role serves as a technical expert within the shop, capable of independently diagnosing complex system failures and executing high-level repairs while ensuring safety, compliance, and quality standards are met. What you'll do Principal Duties and Responsibilities: The following essential functions are the fundamental job duties of the position to be completed with or without appropriate reasonable accommodation. Perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, and component replacements on diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, suspensions, braking systems, hydraulics, and electrical systems. Conduct preventative maintenance (PMs) and scheduled services on Class 7 & 8 trucks and trailers. Diagnose and repair aftertreatment systems including DPF/DEF. Perform DOT inspections and ensure vehicles meet safety and regulatory requirements. Use OEM diagnostic software and tools (Cummins Insite, Detroit Diagnostic Link, Allison, Bendix, etc.). Overhaul, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines and related systems. Repair, reline, replace, and adjust braking systems (air, hydraulic, and electric). Troubleshoot and repair suspension systems, including leaf spring, coil spring, and walking beam systems. Perform clutch, driveline, steering, exhaust, HVAC, and fuel system repairs. Conduct tandem alignments, front axle king pin, and bushing repairs. Perform light welding and fabrication as needed (preferred, not required). Test drive vehicles and test components to ensure proper functionality and repair accuracy. Maintain accurate service records, inspections, and work orders. Inspect completed work for quality and completeness prior to release. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum 5+ years of Diesel Technician/Diesel Mechanic experience (Class 7 & 8 truck experience preferred). Strong diagnostic experience with diesel engines, electrical systems, brakes, hydraulics, and aftertreatment systems. Proficiency with OEM diagnostic software and repair tools. Diesel Technology degree or equivalent hands-on experience preferred. Welding and fabrication experience a plus. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in a non-climate-controlled shop environment. Valid driver’s license required; Class A CDL preferred but not required.
