Salary Range: $58,355.00 - $83,364.00
Reports to: Manager of Research & Technology
Schedule: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday
Location: Walkerton, Ontario

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING

A minimum two-year college diploma or a university degree specializing in water treatment or related environmental disciplines is required. A drinking water treatment or drinking water distribution license would be an asset.
The incumbent requires good knowledge of drinking water treatment principles, methodologies, and practices sufficient to understand the various drinking water treatment and delivery processes, and the requirements of provincial drinking water legislation, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines; the Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002 and its regulations; operating drinking water process units at full or pilot scale; drinking water sample collection and analysis.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and Power Point. A valid class G driver’s licence (or equivalent) that is not expired, forfeited or suspended is required. Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Waste Disposal certifications will be required to be taken and renewed.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of four (4) years of related work experience is required. The incumbent requires experience in operating drinking water process units at full or pilot scale and/or experience working in a drinking water laboratory.
Good information researching, organizational and analytical skills are required. Good communications skills are also necessary.
An equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered.

Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF POSITION

This position supports the work of the Research and Technology Department including operation and maintenance of equipment of the Technology Demonstration facility/laboratory, pilot testing projects and participates in training preparation and delivery. This position will coordinate the chemical waste storage and disposal and general procurement for the Department.
The position reports to the Science Team Lead and also receives guidance and/or direction from the Science & Technology Lead, Scientists and Senior Technical Coordinator.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the maintenance and operation of the Technology Demonstration facility, equipment and laboratory, on and off site. Ensures that these areas are functional and safe while following all protocols, procedures and guidelines. Conducts information and technical tours as required.
  • Assists with shipping, receiving, set up and maintenance of Centre equipment and supplies for training delivery, pilot testing and special events.
  • Works with the Senior Technical Coordinator to ensure equipment and laboratory supplies are procured, maintained and organized. Maintains inventories, logs and trackers as required. Ensures that safety data sheets (SDS) are available and up to date and chemical waste and hazards are handled, stored and disposed of in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Provides assistance and support for Centre pilot testing projects by conducting assigned bench and pilot scale testing experiments, collecting data and samples and analyzing results and assisting in the preparation of documents.
  • Participates in the delivery of training courses and will assist in the preparation of technical content for courses and reports.
  • Provides assistance with Helpline inquires when required.
    Additional duties may be assigned at the discretion of the position Manager.
