POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Technician - Lead Hand plays a key role in ensuring the safe and effective operation of the Club and its facilities, both indoor and outdoor. This role involves coordinating and supervising the Engineering department’s staff while performing maintenance tasks, repairing equipment, procuring parts and services, and managing inventory and supply levels.
The Lead Hand is also responsible for training staff and assisting in the development and implementation of policies and operational procedures. Additionally, they are expected to provide expertise in handling escalations related to facility operations.
A significant portion of the workload involves the refrigeration plant, ice rink maintenance, and pool maintenance. As such, the successful candidate must either possess the necessary certifications or be willing to obtain them within a specified timeframe.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Willingness to obtain, at minimum, an Ice Facility Operator (IFO) Power Engineering certification within 6 months
  • Willingness to obtain, at minimum, a Pool Operators Level 1 Certificate within 6 months
  • Willingness to go through Hollyburn Country Club’s internal Ice Resurfacer program to obtain an Ice Resurfacer Operator Certificate, regardless of prior experience, within 3 months
  • Ability to operate ice-making, refrigeration, and resurfacing equipment
  • Proficiency in using a variety of hand and power tools for maintenance and repair tasks
  • Related experience in a similar role within a maintenance environment or a combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the required duties
  • Competent knowledge of trades including plumbing, HVAC, pool maintenance, carpentry, electrical, and painting.
  • Physical ability to perform demanding tasks and work in various environments.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds safely
  • Prior experience in a supervisory or management role

Technical Knowledge & Expertise - 40%

  • Detailed knowledge of building systems.
  • Knowledge and experience using CMMS systems.
  • Ability to read and understand machine or shop drawings.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude to understand equipment workings and parts requirements.
  • Safe and efficient operation of all ice-making equipment, including Zamboni, Olympia, edgers, etc.
  • Safe operation of the facility’s systems, including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
  • Upkeep and safe operation of an ammonia ice plant and related ice surfaces

Organizational & Time Management Skills - 30%

  • Superior time management skills, detail orientation, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Use our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to effectively track and communicate work requests and work performed by you and the team.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records as required
