QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of a recognized Institute of Technology or University in metallurgical, mineral processing or chemical sciences or certified with Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC) in a relevant field is required
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant experience with working knowledge of physical, chemical and metallurgical processes is required
  • An ability to work both independently and as part of a team to contribute to the success of a technical group is required
  • Highly organized self-starter with strong time management skills are a must
  • Proficiency in computer systems: MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel is required.
  • Experience with Trail’s process data systems, (e.g. PDH, LIMS, GE Aps) or metallurgical modelling software an asset

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Perform plant investigations; Plant investigations include process sampling surveys, measurement of operating parameters and compilation of data from various sources and visual observations provide
  • Provide technical assistance to Operations on projects; troubleshoot plant process problems
  • Conduct laboratory investigations, based on a detailed project outline or general test plan outline, using a variety of lab equipment and pilot scale equipment.
  • Design, assemble or construct required laboratory, pilot, or plant scale equipment, or arrange to have it made; monitor progress to ensure fabricated equipment will meet requirements
  • Assist in the development of operating procedures
  • Maintain effective communication with other Technical personnel, Operators, supervision, and trades personnel
  • Perform routine testing procedures and sampling techniques, operate basic development equipment; assist in developing new test procedures and sampling techniques; perform physical and chemical analyses of plant samples
  • Submit written reports including, data obtained, analysis of data, summary and recommendations; submit only data and comments for analysis by others on long-term projects
  • Provide training to operating personnel in laboratory procedures and sampling techniques; assist in training of junior technicians, Operators, and Process Engineers for standard lab procedures and sampling techniques
  • Assisting in recommendations for corrective action within assigned projects
  • Use knowledge of metallurgical processes and instrumentation employed at Trail Operations to adjust quickly to new plants or processes; may undertake assignments in other business areas or Teck properties
