Job Description Purpose The Systems & Components team delivers a wide variety of tests across multiple industries (automotive, defence, mass transit, aerospace) focusing on the quality and durability of products. The rapidly evolving mobility landscape, with major developments in electrification and automation, is leading to significant changes in how people interact with products. This is driving a need for innovative solutions to ensure that future and existing products meet these new user requirements and our team works closely with customers to develop robust and reliable tests for these changing use cases. As a Technician within the Systems & Components team you will be responsible for working closely with Engineers to develop and deliver a range of tests to provide accurate and reliable solutions across an array of projects, from small scale upgrades through to whole vehicle platform releases. Using a variety of systems you will create rigs to replicate a components in-service conditions and measure & collect appropriate data to report to our customers. Technicians will provide all the required technical support over three shifts to enable the laboratory to function effectively, while adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines. Responsibilities Conduct tests/measurements and produce precise and reliable data. Monitoring of tests and completing comprehensive test logs. Installation and connection of instrumentation and test wiring. Operating of data acquisition and equipment control systems. Design and manufacture of rigs (with engineering support). Set up and fault finding of test rigs. Following procedures and carrying out safety checks. Act in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC staff at all times. Qualifications Qualifications GCSE and above (HNC preferred). Experience Essential Have experience in a workshop/laboratory environment. Ability to use general hand tools. Desirable Knowledge of sensor types and applications, including accelerometers, thermocouples, force transducers etc. Use of programmable/automated test systems. Skills & Behaviours Strong organisational, analytical and excellent attention to detail. Ability to find creative solutions to problems. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Comfortable using computers, in particular Microsoft Office applications. Other Flexibility to support test activity outside of normal working hours. Full UK driving licence & own transport (UTAC Millbrook is not easily accessible via public transport). SC clearance or ability to achieve this (UK national with residency in the UK for the last 5 years). Willing to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check. NOTE: This position be will based on site and run across 3 shifts.
