Responsibilities

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE

The primary role of the Quality Technician is to dimensionally and visually inspect parts received at the dock and that requires Quality Inspection using the proper measurement tools and statistical sampling techniques to verify conformance to engineering drawing specifications and any other applicable standard, using properly Epicor when disposing of material.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide proper problem description (NCR/DMR reports) when rejecting material at receiving or store stages following current Axis procedures, upload it in the Axis system and share it with appropriate parties as Buyers, Engineering, and Planning, as required.
  • Follow up with engineering, purchasing, costing or any other appropriate department in Axis for disposition of non-conforming material in Quarantine or DMR area.
  • Inspect parts that require QC inspection at receiving as per random sampling and quality plan specified in Axis Procedures.
  • Use correct transactions and coding in Axis systems when receiving disposition of material from the Quarantine or DMR area.
  • Dispose of material as per agreed after meeting with ENG – PUR and Quality (disposition might be sort, scrap, rework, RTV, accept under ENG or Customer approval), leaving support documentation in Axis systems for disposition of material in Quarantine or DMR area.
  • Returns back to suppliers the rejected material with the supplier RMA/Credit note provided by the supplier.
  • Maintain accuracy of material in inventory on the Quarantine and DMR area.
  • Performs monthly evaluation of supplier’s quality performance to share with Axis buyer assigned and suppliers, so action plans for supplier quality improvements are provided by suppliers and quality performance, can be tracked.
  • Visit or quality audits to suppliers with low-quality performance or as per Axis business requirements.
  • Provide support as per Axis Business requirements on quality evaluation for new potential suppliers.
  • Participate in transition plans when phasing out/phasing in suppliers to evaluate or minimize quality risks.
  • Participate in the ECR/ECO committee meetings, follow up on the actions to dispose of the material with older revisions and arrival of material with new revisions.
  • Receives and reviews ECRs submitted by all areas except Engineering, to present it to ECR/ECOs meetings.
  • Provide feedback on behalf of the ECR/ECO committee to all ECR submitters regarding approval or rejection of their submitted ECR.
  • Evaluate problems towards identification of root causes and make initial recommendations for possible corrective action on recurrent problems.
  • Send bi-weekly quarantine report to Purchasing, Materials Planner, Stores Manager, Electrical Engineer, Cost and Quality Manager.
  • Keeps measurement equipment operating by following operating instructions; and calling for repairs.
  • Participates in the writing and updating of inspection procedures, protocols and checklists.
  • Conducts housekeeping for personal work area and shared facility space.
  • Observes and complies with all safety, environmental, regulatory, and statutory requirements associated with this job description.

SPECIFIC TASKS APPLICABLE IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE ONES WHEN AT THE SUPPLIER SITE:

  • Count material arriving at an assigned supplier site and receiving it in Epicor.
  • Locate received material in the warehouse location using Epicor at the assigned supplier site.
  • Issue material to the jobs that need to be processed at the assigned supplier site.
