Role Purpose: To plan, deliver and evaluate material electrical insulation tests in support of magnet wire coating project R&D work for new products, applications, processes or optimisation of existing products and processes. Principal Accountabilities: (Areas such as planning, organising, directing, innovating, budgeting, staffing etc. as well as meeting specific objectives within the job purpose.) • Supports technical feasibility assessments and SHE assessments on electrical insulation testing operations. • Designs and codifies laboratory experimental procedures to promote safe working practices in line with all relevant internal and external (local and international) regulations. • Designs, plans, delivers and evaluates experimental materials projects to develop new technical solutions in supporting magnet wire coating project R&D work. • Co-ordinates and interprets data using a range of in-house and external analytical services to evaluate polymer/material properties. • Evaluates, interprets and communicates results of material electrical insulation tests and recommends future work direction in support of magnet wire coating project objectives. • Works with parties outside R&D in defining and delivering projects, including suppliers and other functions. • Responsible for SHE within laboratories and for major pieces of technical equipment. • Proficient in using high-voltage electrical insulation testing equipment (such as breakdown voltage, surface/ volume resistance, and other testing equipment). • Engaged in technical work related to NEV and electronics. Understand market trends. • Understand material manufacturing processes, such as extrusion, casting, coating and composite, etc. • Bachelor's degree or above in science/ engineering majors. • English can be used as a working language, including reading and writing emails and reports in English. Significant Role Metrics: (Annual budget, team size, revenue target.) · Accountable for spend – limit £1000. · Laboratory/facility responsibility – value of equipment up to £10,000. · May occasionally supervise work of a technicians, placement student or apprentice. · Contribute to projects delivering sales value to the Enterprise >£2,000,000 pa. Experience: (Experience normally associated with successful performance of role, ie type of experience rather than length of time.) • Experience with material performance testing in the laboratory, and at least 2 years of experience in operating high-voltage electrical insulation equipment for material testing. • Experience for developing test methods related to HV testing. • Have experience working with end users, such as vehicle/motor/battery manufacturers, etc. • Strong analytical, communication, delivery and team-working skills. • Strong use of statistical and data management tools. • Understanding in recognition and exemplification of intellectual property.
