DESCRIPTION

This posting is open to current students at the University of Alberta; Faculty of Education undergraduate students are preferred.
This position is a part of the Non-Academic Staff Association (NASA).
This position has an end date of December 31, 2025 with the possibility of extension.
Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

POSITION

We’re looking for someone who loves teaching, learning new technology skills, and helping others learn. On-job training for all technology will be provided.
Reporting to the Learning Consultant, the Technology Coach works closely with Faculty of Education staff, students, and instructors. The P/T position allows the successful applicant to demonstrate their knowledge and passion for educational technology. The Technology Coach will cultivate positive experiences for all guests as they learn and get support.
The ideal candidate will have exceptional customer service skills and office experience is a plus. They will need to demonstrate flexibility, organizational skills, problem-solving, communication skills, and the ability to prioritize.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma, current U of A student (Faculty of Education undergraduate students are preferred, but relevant experience will be considered)
  • 2-3 years in a customer service or office setting is preferred
  • Polite, courteous, punctual, flexible, dependable, and professional
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to problem solve and show initiative in the workplace
  • Demonstrated interest in educational technology
  • Basic familiarity with Mac and Windows operating systems, printing, scanning, etc.
  • Experience with the following is an asset:
  • Google Apps
  • MS Office Suite
  • SMARTBoard Technology (an asset, but not required)
  • Audio, Photo, and Video Recording and Editing (an asset, but not required)
  • Web 2.0 Tools
  • Web Conferencing Tools

Responsibilities
  • Support the Front Desk
  • Greet visitors professionally, determining the nature and purpose of visit:
  • Triage incoming requests (phone, email, in-person) to the appropriate team member
  • Connect clients with internal and external resources when necessary
  • Track incoming requests, ensuring client satisfaction
  • Manage room bookings via Google Calendars
  • Perform other related duties as required
  • Support TechinEd Clients
  • Provide troubleshooting for a variety of hardware and software
  • Support students with a wide variety of technology
  • Provide tutoring and/or training on the use of the TechinEd technologies
  • Provide video/audio recording and editing services as requested
  • Provide support for online classes via Zoom
  • Deliver presentations for students, staff, and faculty
  • Work with faculty and staff on developing and supporting projects like:
  • Digital storytelling
  • Screencasting and podcasting
  • Basic video editing
  • Developing/maintaining various websites (Google Sites, WordPress, Wix)
  • Maintaining a mini Maker space
  • Maintain accurate records and logs interactions
  • Develop learning resources as requested, such as tutorials and tip sheets
  • Test and learn new technologies as they become available
  • Participates on project teams as required; project work may include supporting eClass development, course delivery, faculty websites and research projects
